Because the media are catering to a demand... if people didn't want to read it, they wouldn't buy it, so they wouldn't stay in business.

The Tories are malleable in their ideology because of the same thing - they identify demand, so they give the supply.

Well that’s wrong on two fronts - for a start, you don’t have to buy media to consume it; loads is available for free. Almost all of what’s pushed out over social media is of course never intended to make a profit in and of itself. Nor are these businesses that live and die solely on their profitability; most are owned by vastly wealthy people who can and do absorb losses in exchange for the power they get.

Secondly, the Tories aren’t malleable in their ideology; they’ve always stood to benefit the same sort people - what changes is how they present themselves, culminating in the absurd people’s party of today.

Media is never free. Never. It's supported by ads, or funding through taxes, or outright paid for, or a combination of. It is not free - even on social media. There is always an incentive to cater to demand, like any business. The Daily Mail tomorrow can't just arbitrarily decide to go full on woke, not simply because of their editorial direction but because it'd be an absolute disaster as they have cultivated a readership that expects a demand to be supplied.

Sorry but your take here is a fundamental misunderstanding of what the media does.

Tories are very good at PR and marketing, something Labour needs to get grips with in itself.

Of course it needs money; the point is that it doesn’t need to be profitable (which is what you said). The Mail could go as woke as it liked if it was owned by someone with enough money to keep it going.

lol

this is ridiculous
Is it?

If so, what's the explanation for the Labour party's results in the last GE, and the local government elections earlier this week?

I'm not seeking an argument, or to try to "prove you wrong"; I'd genuinely like to know why you think the recent results turned out the way they did if you DON'T feel that "The public trust the Tories more than they do Labour" is an accurate / valid / complete explanation.

A classic of the form, wonderful to see such a beautiful example live.

The public trust the media portrayal of the Tories more than they trust the media portrayal of Labour.

The media is owned by Tories

They all chose to do these things. They are all varying degrees of incompetence or a reflection of their political beliefs or simply unfortunate, but either way the media reporting on them is an example of the media doing their jobs.

If Labour don't want the media on their case, stop giving them ammunition.

Ignoring the media and the supposed views of the public do all these make Labour unfit for office as individual events?

Secondly, which of these do you think most voters were taking in to the voting booth?

Thirdly, why were they taking these in to the voting booth and not Johnson's comments about foreigners or Muslims? Grenfell? Johnson defending Prince Andrew?
