A thousand years ago Picts, Celts, Saxons, Angles, Jutes, Vikings all lived on this island bringing with them their own particular customs and lore, their own ideas concerning government and Gods/worship. Successive waves such as Normans and later Hugueonots, Jews etc etc established themselves and their own culture.

Is that not the very definition of multi-culturalism? You deny the history of this country if you see a long-standing monolithic culture.

As you well know Dave - they were people of Europe and all had a lot more in common with each other. It's why I like freedom of movement within the EU.
