Be interesting to see what Keith does about one of the directors of a Labour group, Labour Against Antisemitism, threatening an elderly Jewish man on Twitter and in the street, implying he'd have been physically violent had his wife not been there:

NB: He'll do nothing. Michael Rosen is the "wrong type of Jew".

Taking Liverpool for granted. Hope it shows as such next election.

The next mayoral election it probably will, especially if one of the three candidates stands as an independent.

It was postponed last May so I would think it could well be this May when it takes place. As you say, it could be interesting.
Standing as independent is a must if rosette on the donkey is the agenda.

Needs a new broom there tbf - the stench of Joe hangs heavy in the air (perhaps Anne Rothery is that person to provide the break, don't know how close she was to Anderson). Agree it doesn't look great - now is not the time for yet more LP naval gazing, but some intervention was clearly needed for a clean slate.

Possibly, though I think they’d never do thst

Pretty disgusting that, given Rosen’s health and complete inoffensiveness.

Has that Glass said anything else heinous of late? Swear I've seen that account pop up recently.

Starmer is right to oppose this btw:

If they're going to look anywhere for a tax raid, its got to be on the people who've made money out of this crisis (and who already largely avoid corporation tax) and the people who've been salting money away in tax havens (many of whom will be bringing that money back to buy up cheap assets soon). Raising taxes on anyone else is wrong.

It's clear to me that Starmer is being advised on every single issue now by Mandelson and other Blairites to take the attack to existing progressive policies seen as touch stones of the left or even centre left in the party. They want to provoke a reaction and fight with the left and this is how they're doing it.

By the time the 2024 election comes around (if Starmer is still leader, which I doubt anyway) the LP manifesto will be very pro-business - even adopting austerity to pay down the massive debt.

If anyone's expecting anything more than that from this LP they are sorely mistaken.

Labour clearly plan to become 'electable' by being a tory lite type party. Really disappointing.

Amazingly, the Tories actually seem to the left of Labour.

The problem is the people who are in charge of the Labour Party have absolutely nothing to offer. They've had years to develop a vision but the best they can come up with is to pretend it's 1997 all over again.

That's what people miss. They read the word 'Corporation' and assume it's big business the tax rise hits.

It's not. It's SMEs. It's a colossal blow to them to see that raised, a hammer blow to economic recovery.

Labour thoroughly right to oppose it.

That’s just the Tories usual flannel though - Sunak isn’t going to spent £600 billion on infrastructure, nor are they going to make improvements in the lives of most people in the country. So they aren’t going to outflank Starmer from the left.

Starmer does need to push something though, personally I’d pick railways because it’s something everyone can understand and the government will screw up what is actually quite a golden opportunity they have at the moment.

Still on the fence, in the absence of policy.

What else happens with other revenues for our state with policy is going to more important, myself would like to see reform in stamp duty, and put in the hands of local authorities. Reform on rates to a land tax... Will stop paying subs if I dont reform on these or similar.

Said it ages ago.

The whole Covid bill should be ring fenced, removed from the year to year debt, serviced, obvs, so it doesnt hamstring any Government in the next 50 years or so with the usual budgeting and stuff.

As for big tax rises, to get growth going, its like standing in a bucket and trying to lift it.

As for Starmer, he isnt very impressive is he?
