Mad how you always resort to arguing against the imagined idea of who a poster is rather than actually defending your point.

How did he challenge racism?
Why do you think it’s sensible to not firmly stand up to it?

He challenged it by saying the "vast majority" of people want an equal society. He belittled her point by being a grown up in response.

If he'd have called her a stupid racist and went off on a passionate tirade, he'd have come across as an elitist out of touch douche, therefore elevating the racists position and giving her a position of sympathy.

That's "defending my point", as I've done twice now. You don't understand that, not because I'm wrong, but because as you've shown time and again you simply can't understand it. You can say it's an "idea" I have of you all you want, but post after post of yours shows you have absolutely zero ability to understand nuance. You lack the ability to understand cause and effect.

Exactly, I sat my nephew down yesterday and made sure he knew that when he's older the sensible, grown-up thing to do is to not challenge racism if he wants the world to get better.
I told my nephew that he’s an embarrassment to me and I can’t remember anything good he’s ever done for the world. At 3 months old it’s time he started making a difference.

I agree with your take on it tbh, it was quite a restrained response which I think was called for. Was interesting to hear there was at least one Millwall fan booing because he was worried white people were becoming a threatened minority in Britain I thought. I was told they were all booing because of marxism and BLM and things like that. Astonished to hear there may have been actual racists in there

lol

I'll say it was...

Loony: "The blacks are replacing us Aryans. Why cant my voice be heard?"

Starmer: "Well, we all have those rights...people will look at this in different ways"

Mad to see Tubey here saying about nuance. Just because people disagree with you doesn’t mean they can’t understand your argument - let’s be honest, they’re usually pretty simplistic viewpoints.

You’re not right just because you ascribe to a ‘common sense’ ‘sensible’ approach that apes the worst of Aaron Sorkin.

No asked him to go off on a tirade so, as usual, you’ve argued against something that wasn’t said. It’s not grown up to shy away from telling people they are racist when they are. People like yourself who would have sympathy for her aren’t the ones to aim for.

I wouldn't. But I have the ability to understand wider society cause and effect.

You do not.

So in this instance do give us your valuable "wider society cause and effect" theory as it applies here.

I already have twice.

If the leader of the opposition engages that passionately instead of dismissively, he elevates the view and makes the other person - of far less stature and power in society - a figure of sympathy.

He did the right thing. Clearly. Call her bigoted and while you may be right, you create a Gillian Duffy.

I’m really not sure you do. You just seem to have a low opinion of the white working class and their ability to disagree with racists

It's actually the exact opposite. I have faith in the common sense of most people to be able to understand and see racism when it happens without having it preached to them every 10 seconds. It doesn't need Starmer going off on one for anyone listening to that to understand the woman was a blatant racist.

No one has asked for it to be preached to anyone ever 10 seconds or for Starmer to go off on one.
If people are okay noting she's a racist then why exactly would it cause such a major issue for him to challenge her?

You also mentioned Gillian Duffy - one bigot from Rochdale really wasn't that important to the 2010 election result, though it's an easy to tell story. I think it would actually have helped him if he hadn't apologised but that's just my thought, it's not possible to tell.
