It was a bad miss tbf - obv you don't fully engage with a cretin like that, because it would just be an exercise in cuntology. But it still needed a hard rebuke in a couple of sentences, next caller pls. This is trivial for someone like SKS - like it's a complete full toss begging to be flayed to the boundary, so I'm surprised he fluffed it.

Essentially the way I see it is what does arguing with a clown on national radio do for Sir Keirs credibility when all the Tory Press will do will twist it into "Labour leader calls woman a racist on air"

The only people that would impress would be the likes of Owen Jones - the type of Labour supporters who worship a bloke who is the biggest failure in arguably Labour Party history losing landslide elections to awful Tory opponents.

If Owen Jones had any self reflection he would realise his echo chamber is a minority of militant Labour supporters who dont speak for the majority of the party - likewise they have no right to undermine or question the leader who knows what he is doing.

It wont happen but Labour need to stamp out this militant faction otherwise they will undermine us to the point that the Tories win yet another election and the poor and public services hit with another round of austerity cuts.

A rational, objective view when considering Satrmers handling of that conversation would be that he acted perfectly reasonably and professionally and repeatedly made clear his support for equality.

Nah mate he didnt froth at the mouth shouting "WACIST! GAMMON! BIGOT! BREXITEER!"

Get him gone and get Saint Jeremy reinstated immediately the parties going to the dogs lol

In general you're right - it is essential that SKS continues to not give a single [Poor language removed] about what Owen Jones or his fellow travellers think of his Leadership.

But this wasn't someone making a right-wing, but still mainstream point that he could afford to passively dismiss. Gemma from Cambridge was putting out an extremely racist position on whites being a persecuted minority and that really needs a hard counter (which is easy to do on radio, it's not like she's up in his face with it). Obv he shouldn't mount some Corbyn-esque line by line rebuttal as that only adds the credibility of debate to what she is saying, but it needed a lot more than what he said IMHO.

Not a big deal really, doubt many people will be arsed, but a small missed opportunity.

He didn't miss an opportunity: he made a rational decision not to face down the people he wants to vote for him. It's cowardice of the worst kind. Kow-towing to neo-nazis.

Oh, and "SKS"?

Lol.

Given the way that the LP have looked for a 'youthquake' to make the difference at the last couple of elections, that is alarming.

Yeah many of the younger generation that I know aren’t to enamoured with him. They want action, not empty words and ‘forensic questioning’ have to say I’m inclined to agree.

He's a clever feller, intellectually speaking. You dont get the jobs he has by not having a good intellect. However, he's very late to the political game; he has no hinterland in the LP and movement beyond parliament, and he relies heavily on keeping a balance in the PLP between soft "left" and Blairites to retain control. He'll never be able to take the membership and trade union movement with him, he has no natural afffinity with them and he'll try and turn Labour into the SDP MkII when the conditions for its existence are even less propitious now than they were back in the 80s.

He's been a terrible mistake. The members of the LP made a catastrophic error in electing him.

The crank he was talking to also mentioned Israel as an example of whose white supremacist practices the UK should follow. I'd imagine he was conscious of that in his answer. If he condemned her comments it would have been a tacit condemnation of Israel and we know where that ends.

How dare Keir Starmer act like a grown-up.

... seriously am I missing something here? He just played the straight bat and avoided clear bait. He was smart.

Exactly, I sat my nephew down yesterday and made sure he knew that when he's older the sensible, grown-up thing to do is to not challenge racism if he wants the world to get better.

He did by not giving the view the time of day - if he gave any sort of credence to it, it elevates it.

But I'm not surprised, at all, that you don't understand that.

Mad how you always resort to arguing against the imagined idea of who a poster is rather than actually defending your point.

How did he challenge racism?
Why do you think it’s sensible to not firmly stand up to it?
