Massive difference between a government dabbling in socialism and an opposition building their entire manifesto around it.

I’m not dismissing it, but this country isn’t ready to vote in a socialist government.

NHS Fire social care and schooling for most all Socialism. Public ownership of energies and transport are hugely popular...

Starmer offers nothing. He'll be rejected. He's a hologram who believes all you need to do is present a bland image and not offend anyone. It's not enough. We need hope and a programme to lift the nation.

For the time being and context and backdrop of recent 80 seat majority, it's a case of let us all suck up the full extent of the 2019 election. I know I'm happy with my vote for Labour!

We need a unifying voice, Dave, not to be pointing at each other and shouting.

They may well be, but socialism and the way it’s presented isn’t.

I very much doubt I’ll ever see a socialist government in my life time and that’s something I’ve come to accept. There’s no appetite for it, especially when nationalism is at the forefront of politics right now.

Maybe it will shift over time and I do hope so, but for the time being the next best thing is a pragmatist that can bring the party together to attack this dreadful government.

The conservatives are doing their very best to create a politicised, anti-Tory youth vote. They are going to lose a generation of voters. Except for the racist ones mind

You are possibly right mate but the Conservative claim to be the UK (and worlds) most successful political party might be indicative of a cultural mindset in the UK. Their success is built upon something.

Home owners and old people.

''As in previous years, homeowners were more likely to vote Conservative in the 2019 election. According to Ipsos MORI’s figures, 57% of voters who owned their home outright voted Conservative, as did 43% of people with mortgages. By contrast, 45% of social renters and 46% of private renters voted Labour.

The 2011 Census tells us how many homeowners were in each constituency. At the time, around 64% of UK households owned their home, either outright or with a mortgage. 315 of the Conservatives’ 365 seats (86%) had home ownership levels above this average, compared with 53 of Labour’s 202 seats (26%).''

Housing is probably the biggest issue driving the wedge between young people voting Labour and old people making money on an asset voting tory who artificially keep house prices rising

The thing is life ultimately doesnt change much - the boomer voting Tory in their comfy 4 bed detached were likely student leftie protesters in their teen years.

Likewise once the current youth/uni/BLM protesters age, get mortgaged up with a spouse & kids to pay for a percentage will inevitably end up splitting off and voting tory.

Starmer and Anneliese Dodds are a bit of a joke really. They agree with everything Boris is doing but then add that they would somehow do it better. It’s the most supine form of opposition I’ve ever seen. Other than wanting to remain in the EU, and of course he’s now ditched that, I haven’t a clue what he stands for or what he would do......

How do Tories keep house prices artificially high? There is a shortage of housing, its supply and demand.

The difference now vs this historical trend of ''get older get more tory'' is 1 in 3 young people are expected to rent for the rest of their lives, owning a house is getting harder and harder for young people and the age where the majority of voters switches from labour to tory has actually gone from 30ish to 40ish if I remember correctly in the past 3 elections.

The LP shadow cabinet team are by and large a bunch of drones - look at how many times they are allowed to speak about any issue - it;s Starmer to the fore on all issues: education, the economy, immigration, Covid19, racism. He micro-manages everything, and that's because that's his only strength. He's not a leader looking to pioneer a new vision, he;s not an idealist; he's a parasite looking to do what Blair did - triangulate and gain power that way - and sidleline all the party doing it. But the conditions that supported Blair aren't there anymore.

This balloon will be a one GE election leader of the opposition. He may even be jettisoned before then if he chooses to go on a collision course with the left and the unions.
