People aren't interested in an alternative right now and won't be until the election is on the horizon.

We had multiple elections over a period of time and 4 years until the next one. Election fatigue is a factor and yes, we are all still getting through a terrible year.

I think the public realise the Tories are in power now for a long time.
That's a pretty searing indictment of the voting public in this country.

Mate, we've been fecked for quite a while

We've seen over a decade of stalling living standards, life expectancy and standing of the country in the World. Chuck the pandemic on top and at least another nine years of the Tories, and that is where we are.
But... But... But.... Brexit!!!

It's a poll conducted 7 months after the last eection in which utterly disastrous decisions have been made by the ruling party. And no dial has been shifted whatsoever. That's because the LP under Starmer have backed the government in almost every way since this virus hit us.

You cant close down a lead if you offer no alternative. Starmer believes that by not rocking the boat LP voters will turn away from the Tories. They wont.

That misses the point entirely, dave (as well as in effect buying into the notion that Labour can do much to move the polls at present).

The problem is - and was under Kinnock, Smith, Blair, Brown, Miliband and Corbyn - the media (and by that I mean the papers, radio/TV, the commentariat and social media). Pick up any of the papers on newsstands today, or read them online, or see what is being churned out across social media - there are hundreds / thousands of people actively engaged in pumping out pro-Tory nonsense, on every outlet you can think of and it is all the time.

When things go tits up - as they are with this, and as they will be over Brexit - even more of it gets pushed out.

All Labour can do is wait until a decision comes along that matters - ie: the next election - and then fight the campaign of its life, hoping that enough people believe their own experiences instead of what society is telling them. Win that and then we can start to fix things.

...all Labour can do - the decision has been made by its insipid right wing leadership - is to bide their time and hope that the crisis persuades finance capital to replace the Tories for a few years with the Tory second IX, which is what Blairism was all about....and that was no solution to any normal person's economic and social problems.

Yep.

The average person isn't engaged with party politics aside from just prior to an election.

Most of the details and intracicies of Government also goes above the head of most of the public (same will be true for any country).

That is why we have a such a focus on soundbites, short social media clips and lines to take, as that might have some kind of cut through.

But even when an issue hugely cuts through (Barnard Castle), the Tories are so entrenched, and the Johnson cabal are so in charge if the Tories, that they can ride it out as we are so far away from an election.

...maybe Starmer will get up off his 'kin knees and start acting like the leader of the opposition rather than licking the arse of his Tory betters. How he's allowed a Tory Party that's slaughtered 66,000 people to retain a lead like that is an abomination.

Cap in hand gets kick in teeth.

Possibly a truer reflection of the situation.

I particularly liked this bit by Blair “to an elite at the top increasingly out of touch with the rest of us”. I’m sure at the time that he really did believe he was ‘one of us’. I wonder when his conversion to ’the elite’ took place......

Right after God spoke to him!

As for Starmer: I'm at a point where I'm openly considering dumping the party (membership) and voting some other way too.

I respect your views on socialism and the party, but, if I was being 100% honest, if you abandoned the party, it would give me hope that Starmer is doing something right, and we might actually stand a chance of getting into power.

The conditions for Blairism were there in the 90s; a 'third way' could still be sold to an electorate sick of Tory sleaze and excesses at the time. What big idea has Starmer got to charm the electorate now?

The choice we have now is socialism or barbarism. Increasingly so.

Honestly ?

I don't know mate, he doesn't really have the charisma to sway people, I'm just hoping that, as time goes on and the effects of this governments decisions become more obvious, enough waverers will sway towards a more equitable society and make a difference.

I'm not massively confident though.
