Honestly ?

I don't know mate, he doesn't really have the charisma to sway people, I'm just hoping that, as time goes on and the effects of this governments decisions become more obvious, enough waverers will sway towards a more equitable society and make a difference.

I'm not massively confident though.

Judging by the complete absence of any positive qualities identified for Starmer in here, it’s looking like his only attraction for some will be that he’s not a Tory. And @davek may still not be convinced.....

Means f.a.

The press and media in general haven't hounded Starmer the way they did "red Ed" and Corbyn...in fact they've given him a massive boost in his credibility (unearned)...that's what people are reacting to.

Starmer is pro-Washington, pro-Israel, pro-nuclear, pro-market.

He's as Establishment as any Tory leader.

If you think the UK would vote in a party that is anti Merica/Israel/nuclear/market think you may be waiting a while. (Israel yay/nay is no game changer mind. Think most arent that arsed)

They would have done if the LP bureaucracy hadn't been working for the Tory Party and trying to stop it happening...they succeeded by just a few thousand votes in 2017 from stopping just such a political party taking power.

If the LP bureaucracy had been sacked days before the elction, the required marginal seats would have fallen to Labour.

Ifs buts and maybes with respect.

While I agree that the majority of the population aren't particularly arsed about the issue, "Israel nay" is the reason for Corbyn's vilification as an antisemite. I would disagree that it isn't a game-changer.

You may well be right. I just feel, with absolutely no evidence at all, that the whole "anti semite" stuff was largely confined to the political classes, and didnt have the traction in the real world that they perhaps thought it did.

Either way, its a moot point now I guess.

I can safely say that in my times spent in and around pubs in this country, or in social settings in general I don't think I have heard anyone talk about the Israel Palestine issue.

You can add work environments too.

The only time it is actively put in front of me it is from a 'handful' of posters on Everton forums.

I have the same experience. It is definitely a radical thing and not a moderate concern, in my opinion, rightly or wrongly.

Oddly enough, so was Clem Attlee. I expect he was a Tory too, after all, he came from a middling background.
