Starmer.....“I sent the PM a confidential note and he has not replied”......Boris “I phoned you up and we discussed it” .....forensic......

He didn’t phone him up though, and he didn’t discuss it.

He spoke to all Opposition leaders, not just Starmer, and in his answer he said he covered it (not that he’d discussed the letter).

Hopeless by Starmer. He was rebuffed by a clown and accused of knowing the answers to questions he was asking today in the Commons that he'd had an answer to already via phone calls with the clown. Then he was on the backfoot accused of undermining the restarting of the economy and social life...BECAUSE he had no critique of the reopening of the lockdown.

Then he comes out with this:

"Boy, he makes it difficult to support this government."

Support this government. FFS you are the OPPOSITION and we're going through a calamity created by the government you seek to support.

Pathetic.

TBF even his gentle, absolutely sourced questions like the one about the head of UKSA criticising the governments lies over testing got a hysterical “playing politics / attacking public trust” response.

Any question anyone asks that is even remotely critical of whatever they claim the truth is will get the same response.

Look at how they are responding to tonight’s Dispatches for example, where the programme will apparently claim that herd immunity was policy based on nothing more than the recorded words of the PM, Whitty, Hancock, several press releases, witnesses from across Europe and the evidence of our own eyes.

Obviously it’s going to be fake news.

But why for heavens sake did he raise the issue of MP’s queuing to vote. He must have realised that Boris would immediately mention everybody else having to queue at Tesco’s and having to put up with restrictions in the workplace.....

Because it was the easiest issue to make fools of them over. It also resulted in him changing their position too, as they will now allow proxy voting so MPs now won’t have to queue.

Boris had already decided to do that and he said so. In the eyes of the public it made Starmer look like he doesn’t like queuing, and they will say “stuff you, that’s what we have to do“.....

No it didn’t, and you are not “the public”.

Also did you actually see images of the queue yesterday? To do that as a choice, when they’ve been remote voting with no problems for weeks, was stupid.

Yeah, it’s not like the public have to do anything like that is it.....

It isn’t. Were all those people able to shop remotely in Ikea the day before without any problems?

I think you are missing a political point. The government wants people to go back to work and will no doubt want to reduce the 2metre rule to 1. The government wants MP’s to show the public that they too must go back to work, even if it looks ridiculous. Letting MP’s have a feel for what the public are going through will stop any sniping when the rules are changed. Having opposition parties moaning about having to turn up to vote and earn their pay won’t play well with those who do have to do so...it’s part of the process...but that’s just my view.....

Firstly, it wasn’t just opposition MPs who said it was a stupid idea - Tory MPs opposed it as well. Secondly, they were doing their jobs beforehand with remote voting, probably more efficiently than in normal times (when divisions last between 10 and 30 minutes) and certainly more efficiently than yesterday (when it took more than an hour). I don’t know if you’ve noticed this but working from home where you can is something the Government did actually encourage.

I personally have no problem with MP’s not being in Westminster. But it’s symbolic that they at least try....I agree with bringing in more efficient processes.......

Good bit on Corbyn by Peter Oborne for Middle East Eye:

Worth a read, whatever you think of the fella. @Joey66 might be interested, as it absolutely eviscerates Tom Bower's tissue of lies which he lauded so often.

Never read that book, never will. But Corbyn just came across as a 6th form political debater to me.

Utter light weight.
