Makes me sad reading that article.

Reading this bit

... struck a chord, time and again over the last few weeks I've heard this around the county, and it's true, the plan was to give people two choices, Remain or Leave, but only nominally Leave.

Much as I hate the result, we got the kicking we deserved by being arrogant enough to hope that people who'd voted leave wouldn't realise how condescending our "Brexit Plan" was. We should have planned a referendum of Remain against the current deal. At least that way, people in Leave areas would have felt they were being given a real choice.

The mistake we made was in crediting the people you refer to with too much intelligence.

After three years the whole argument in favour of Brexit has been laid bare and there are zero to minus zero benefits of Brexit.

You would think they would have wised up by now.

Gave it a bit of thought...listened to experts on TV, in between watching X Factor and Gogglebox....read the government’s own Yellowhammer report.

Instead the Tories pandered to their stupidity and gullibility, took it as read, and then they parroted the mindless slogan they heard Their Master’s Voice flog to death ever since Manchester.........”ler’s ger Bregggsitt dun”......in Leigh FFS.

In Blythe......in blooming Bury.

In Workington.

We credited them with intelligence.

The Tories regarded them as mindless simpletons.

And the Tories were right.

Not really much to gloat about across the board. The 'remain' vote has performed terribly.
Only in England though Bruce which makes you wonder why.

There is no doubt that this result along with the referendum one proves that there is a mentality among some 'working class' (if that still exists) English people that they are being ruled by the big bad EU and that they are under threat from foreigners.

Whether that is an ingrained thing in the English psyche or as a result of misinformation from the gutter tabloid press is difficult to say. But it is worrying and baffling in equal measure, and as a result England will now cut itself off from the rest of Europe.

You have to admit Brexit is a masterstroke for Billionaires and Tory's.

Upper Class - Europe stopping you getting more money and having to look after your workplace with all the red tape, you have to leave.

Middle Class - Blame Work Shy who won't do zero hour jobs when there are jobs out there which is why you pay more so if we leave we'll send THEM back so they'll have to fill the jobs and they won't have a excuse or we'll take their universal credit.

Working Class - It's all the immigrant coming from Europe, why my life is so crap and I am privileged to have more then them but they have more then me and I'm white. Let's vote leave.

It's a rock, a hard place and a sanctuary for idiots all in one.

I've love to see the Russian papers released to find out how much they interfere in Brexit they way they sorted out Trump. Shame our "government" won't do Jack about it.

This tweet demonstrates everything wrong with the Labour Party today; it has become a vehicle for the metropolitan middle classes and betrayed the very people who it was built to represent.

They just don't get it.

Labour are going to foist the blame all on Corbyn's shoulders as a sacrificial lamb and go on pretending nothing is wrong.

It's surreal how they simply can't see the wood for the trees.

Enlighten us Tubez

I can see the issues and how Labour need to fix them as clear as day, but because of Momentum they won't make the changes required.

I said this in 2015 before the referendum.

The politics of fear has succeeded in two major votes now - the Scottish referendum and this election. The EU referendum would be exceptionally close IMO.

I said this in 2016.

Corbyn is the dictionary definition of London-based student union socialism. Very few people in the UK find that approach appealing.

He is unelectable. That's not the party telling me that, it's my own brain - I can't vote for him, pretty much everyone I know can't vote for him, and I live in the safest Labour seat imaginable. That's how unelectable he is.

And I'll say this now - if Labour don't somehow ditch Momentum and move to the centre-left with a stable, intellectual and/or passionate common sense voice as leader, the Tories will win again in the next election, because Johnson has the mandate to stop moving to the right and will come to the centre domestically to counter the damage that Brexit will cause him.

The path to a 1997 type turnaround for Labour is there - it just depends on if they take it.

This is a very good thread and explains a lot

I hope the penny has dropped and they pick a leader that can appeal to the public.

The media will target he or she whatever, maybe it needs to be a she because I don't think they can go after a lady as much as they can a man, it will look mean very quickly.

Miliband hammered, Corbyn hammered, Blair even got hammered but he won through.

Pick the right leader for god's sake, nothing wrong with the socialist policies.

I get this point but would that have helped Labour retain the seats they've just lost in their heartlands, which seem to have voted for the most pro-Brexit party?

The centre left in Labour are using this to get rid of the policies put forward in the manifesto, Tories all over the media saying the public rejected the polices, it's utter rubbish.

The smear campaign against Corbyn worked, people don't like him, they won't vote for him, that and the stance on brexit to offer a 2nd Ref and turn their backs on Labour leave voters was their downfall.

It is as simple as that, but the Tory media are using this to make out Labour is dead.

Let Johnson get on with brexit and all the pitfalls that entails for him, get a good leader to head Labour and the party can rise again ready for the next election where brexit if done badly, will destroy the Tory vote.

Thanks for proving my point about being condescending.

That means talking down to people.

I get the impression that this guy had never even met anyone from the working class until he ventured into the dark lands of Bedford and Milton Keynes. His comment on talking to some young working class people: "It was amazing to see how quickly and instinctively they grasped a left wing agenda while saying they had never thought of it before."
