Makes me sad reading that article.

Reading this bit

They were trying to weasel out of giving us Brexit,” says Will McCall, another lifelong Labour voter who shifted allegiances. “Sue Hayman especially was trying to stop it. She’s been punished for that.”

... struck a chord, time and again over the last few weeks I've heard this around the county, and it's true, the plan was to give people two choices, Remain or Leave, but only nominally Leave.

Much as I hate the result, we got the kicking we deserved by being arrogant enough to hope that people who'd voted leave wouldn't realise how condescending our "Brexit Plan" was. We should have planned a referendum of Remain against the current deal. At least that way, people in Leave areas would have felt they were being given a real choice.

It's utterly damning and just makes me question, again, where do we go from here

Stop hating people who dont naturally agree with you? Stop taking folk for granted? Give off a positive vibe instead of telling everyone that the UK is a cess pit, and if you dont agree, you are scum?

That would be mine first 3 on the white board during the debrief.

I think serf is the appropriate nomenclature for dissenting (ex) Labour people. Scum is reserved for Tories, Liberals and Blairites.

Stop taking folk for granted is probably the only serious takeaway from those three. Only 'hatred,' and it's very justified anger, is directed at the folks who have taken away opportunities from people like myself and pulled the ladder up because, well, they're alright Jack.

And what opposition would give off a positive vibe about the way things are? That's what they're trying to change.

Stop taking folk for granted
This is the biggest factor for me because I feel that Labour, probably like many other parties, have took people for granted with their historical voting allegiances.

Of course, Brexit is a huge aspect of it and the voting patterns of remain and leave voters compared with yesterday show that, but it isn't as simple as that.

For the last twenty or so hours, a common trend in the media has been people saying, "I've always voted labour, as have my family, but now I've voted Tory."

They're not saying they're Conservatives and I suspect they'll swing back again with the right direction, however they felt ignored and felt compelled to move.

You've got it in Leigh, Yorkshire, Sunderland et. al (Red Wall) saying the same thing: indecision with Brexit and Corbyn's leadership, or lack of, forced their hand.

Although people may say that we as a population should look beyond popularity and charisma etc., people want someone they can trust and align to.

I was in the pub before and speaking to a long-standing acquittance who is a regular in the Casa (for those who know) and has always been a labour supporter.

Now, he's still a Labour supporter but he made a really valid comment that struck with me as there was a conversation going on involving a few 'elite' students.

"The problem is that people like you (the students), feel that you can tell people like me (working class) who I should vote for and lambaste us. That's the problem."

"If someone has felt compelled to vote Tory, don't throw your insults and tell them to k'off. Ask yourself, what have the party done wrong to not make them vote."*

Even now Corbyn is refusing to admit he cocked it up, he actually apologised for the manifesto, while stating that the manifesto was welcomed by everyone. So as usual, no apology, no understanding of what he has done.....

Labour has become a metropolitan party. It has lost any contact with the rest of the country.....is there even one agricultural area, full of working class people, that is currently Labour ? It has become a party of protest and luvvies....
