The real issue is that this 'centre ground' is still two steps to the right of Thatcher now, the whole political sway having shifted over 20 years.
It's a big problem, to claim any of that Blairite ground they would have to be erm, Blairites, which in turn would lose votes.
The other side is the ever absorbing Lib Dems, as morally bankrupt as the tories, are aiming for the enter ground on a business mentality, not political.

....regardless of moral compass, the Liberals have a strategy and it’s working. They have a fixed view on Brexit which is clever enough to get them back in the ball game after a period in the wilderness.

This morning on Maher, John McDonnell said their aim was to negotiate a new deal with Europe. They would then put that deal to the people in a 2nd referendum but campaign to remain. They are trying to appeal to all their voters but it’s a complicated approach that will put many floating voters off.

The next GE should serve as a Brexit referendum in itself, with each party having a fixed view but Labour’s approach is blurred.

....there seems a number of Labour MPs who are very close to this and suggest the party has a major problem with anti-semitism. Perhaps they are imagining it and it’s all fabrication. Whatever it is, the Labour Party is tainted and rather than say it’s everybody else’s fault, it needs to turn things around or it will always only appeal to the left wing.

Whilst policy is key, unfortunately image is also a major factor. The Labour Party needs to be clever, I think Corbyn should step aside for the good of the party. I dare say, members will vote for another Momentum candidate but it will at least be a fresh face without the Corbyn baggage.
Sorry, I wont entertain that idea. It's not happening. The internal politics of the LP has given this credence. I never will. It's bogus.

Completely disagree, you cannot use GE as a referendum, especially on something that has divided across the political spectrum.
As for the lib dems, amoral as they are, what you're accusing labour of is their m.o.
Brexit aside, because there are matters of greater importan e, like starving children etc, the lib dems are trying to be a 'broad church' by taking refugees from tory and labour alike, they'll take ukip and brexit party too if the opportunity presents, but the reality is they support the policies of the conservati es upto and including austerity, and have a leader on a par with McVey.

And that is exactly the issue in a nutshell. Someone shouting loudly la-la-la it's not happening, fake news.

....i’m not in the least supporting the Liberal agenda and suspect they will be found out at the hustings, but the reality is they have recovered to become a political force. Labour will have to be smart to be elected.

Again, I disagree. The lesson all parties need to learn, (all are struggling btw, but labour are closest to dealing with), is to have some sort of conviction, to have a certain set of core values.
Since the early 90s all parties sought this 'middle ground', they were told they had to by the media and the new breed of lobbyists and spads (which is key to the undermining of democracy and one of the main causes of why we are where we are now), all of them.chased this easily pliable unconnected group, under advisement.
People got lost and so too did representation. None of this is accidental or consequential.
That lib dems under a glorified spad in Swinson are still using that method shows desperation and a genuine need for validation to be a 'political force'. They are a spent force, a retirement village for spent and irrelevant self serving politicians.
Not a fan tbh ;)

My greatest concern with all this is the 'labour victims' of AS all tend to be members of the PLP or associated apparatchiks, which gives credence to the agenda and machinery against the rank and filw who tend not to be victims or witness to these accusations.

....it’s not whether you’re a fan of the Liberals, it’s accepting they will pick up Labour and Tory votes. I think they will be a factor in the next election, as will the Brexit Party. It’s dangerous to write them off as a spent force, every vote in this election will be fought over.

It’s hard to see anything but another hung Parliament.

As ever, some of the nutters on here somehow making voting Tory seem acceptable.

Corbyn has probably had his best week in parliament, mainly because he’s appeared level headed and actually committed to everyone’s best interests.

Tbf, with a couple of exceptions, they have been fairly level headed for a few years as far as parliament's concerned..

Anywayz, 41-times ya wrong un x

There's no doubt they'll pick up disaffected voters from everywhere, the numbers will influence to an extent but the way the lib dem party has become a refuge and a one issue party, the opposite of the brexit party, rather than a party of values, will become more apparent the closer we get to an election, and probably finish them off.

....doubt it will finish the Liberals off, especially with the 2 major parties shifting to the edges.
