Current Affairs The Labour Party

I'm not concerned about the Brexit Party. Rarely does a GE ever revolve around a single subject, and I'm sure that'll be the case here.
They may not take many seats but they can do damage though. An average of say 10% in each seat will bite into the Tories most but Labour too.

The campaign will be on leaders...it's been going that way for years and we have that horrible Americal presidential feel about our GEs now.

More broady though on this appeal to normal people: it's going to be a massive strain on tribal loyalties in may northern vote Leave areas. The Lp face a moment of truth there. But, IMO, when an election gets going and lasts 5 weeks or so, the Brexit issue will be vying for attention with more basic bread and butter issues over public spending and who the public trusts to spend cash to get the country back up and running again after 9 years of Tory austerity. Johnson knows that and it's why he's been advised to go all out the last few weeks promising to open up the purse strings, for the north and midlands especially. Personally I think that appeal falls on deaf ears; most people who vote Labour aren't going to risk trusting the Tory Party run by this feller to come through on their promises...he's already know as a liar on so many other occasions in any case, so there's evidence to back up those fears.

In short: I dont think the Tory strategy (and Brexit Party strategy for that matter) to take swathes of constituencies from Labour is going to be half as successful as they hope.
Hope your right.

I'm slightly confused about the furor surrounding Labour's Brexit policy.

May's deal does not meet any of the six tests outlined by Keir Starmer. It is right to expect that any prospective Labour government would extend A50 and renegotiate with the EU and ensure, regardless of the result of the confirmatory referendum, that we retain access to the single market in its entirety.

There was no coincidence that labour had a surge in the polls after they were given a platform to put there policies out there. Also think Corbyn comes across well in interviews and debates.
He can be good but it's very dependent on the environment and how motivated he is feeling, basically needs to be comfortable and to be arsed (sometimes he manifestly is not).
Put in some decent performances at PMQs which is an adversarial environment but one he's very experienced with. Put him in any sort of media situation under pressure and he just seems to get really wound up and loses his poise - like he's inwardly raging at the kopite / Tory media.

So in a GE he'll campaign effectively when it's on his terms, not so effectively when it isn't. But it's not clear that things like TV debates even shift the dial between mainstream parties nowadays - seems like it's people who are less well known who can benefit more. e.g. most people probably haven't heard Jo Swinson speak (I haven't myself particularly), so she could give the lib dems a surge with an assured performance.

i didn't link a tweet, snouts.

The person you were answering did. I despair how many people use Facebook and Twitter and are completely unable to spot troll and bot accounts designed to make you angry and get you fighting with each other.

Now, why a bunch of Russian trolls would be backing Jeremy Corbyn so fiercely, I’ll leave that riddle for you all to figure out, because you need to.

Russian bot accounts aren't backing Jeremy Corbyn so fiercely, though. The person who is getting the bots out is....

(the whole thread is emphatically worth reading, as is his other stuff)

Wew.
A groupe of prominent economists wrote into the FT and rebuked this,

Hold on, people getting a fair deal off the Labour Party? That's going to frighten away all kinds of voters. They must be mad. Thank goodness the Boss's Bible has brought this to our attention. :coffee:

You happy to give me 10% of your savings mate?

Thats the gist of the plan. FT have ballsed up their reporting mind.

Today's Guardian has a poll putting the Tories 10 points ahead of Labour.

Given everything that has gone on these past few weeks, this is shocking news.

Labour, Corbyn, and the Momentum entryists, are all currently unelectable.
