Perception's a funny thing isn't it? Debt for education = worse thing ever, much bigger dept for a house = best thing since sliced bread. Both are largely appreciating investments (unlike a car say), yet we have very different attitudes towards them.

No they aren't, Bruce. Houses have been a relatively solid investment (in some parts of the country anyway) but there is absolutely no evidence to show that student debt is.

Apart from banks, estate agents, and home owners, who exactly thinks the second real estate credit/quantitative easing bubble in a decade is a good thing?? Certainly nobody under 40 who I've ever met...

Oh for sure, house prices have gone crazy and are completely out of whack with their utility. Nonetheless, historically houses have made a good investment, hence why mortgages are still seen as an okay thing, despite you typically paying twice the original value of the house after interest etc. Degrees are a similarly sound investment in the most part (obviously not all degrees are good ones, but that's down to the 'buyer' to figure that out).

A house is a good investment if you can afford to buy a second house and rent it out. If you can't afford a second house then the house you own, you also live in. If you sell it to move, then the house you buy has gone up too. I agree that you will eventually realise your investment when you pop your clogs - but you won't see much of it!:D

I was pointing out the dichotomy of what you perceive as him trying to win the middle class, whilst simultaneously wanting to increase the rate of tax in which they pay.
In 2016 he needed to be appealing to the middle classes to get their votes to put him in power. He failed to do so. This was aptly demonstrated in 2017 where he abjectly failed to convince enough of the Middle class to vote for him, despite the overwhelming poor efforts put in by the Tories. My point was he didn’t do enough.

There’s no dichotomy. He’s literally unable to see beyond a 20th Century ‘class’ based argument and that’s the problem. He’s unable to produce arguments which move beyond that.

Report in The Times suggesting that Corbyns protected David Prescott (son of John, and Corbyns speechwriter and media expert) after he was accused of sexually harassing a fellow Labour MP. Should have been suspended but never was.

Got a feeling Corbyn may lose the Labour leadership soon. The Brexit debate has weakened his position, the constant anti-semitism story would soon go away if he steps down and Labour would probably surge ahead in the polls too. Even Owen Jones has written an article talking about potential replacements for him. I think his days are numbered.

The class war is alive raging away, you can be sure of that.

And the inability of the centre and it's so called liberals to reconcile it's cronyism with the corporate business, is having devastating consequence within the country. The effects are playing out from the UN report to disharmony, Brexit and far right.
