Current Affairs The Labour Party

Imagine pretending that it's a binary issue. The simple fact of the matter is, that to repair the damage Cameron et al has inflicted on this country, we all need to compromise somewhat. Labour's manifesto clearly states that the party will respect the result of the referendum, and will negotiate a deal that guarantees a level of alignment with Europe on things like workers rights and environmental protection.

What does workers rights actually mean in this context?

As for Labour's 'plan', I'm inclined to think their customs union plan is designed to pretend like they're upholding the referendum result whilst also knowing full well it has no chance of passing, whether because it goes against EU rules as they stand today, or that it would prevent the UK from concluding independent trade deals of its own (which is the main issue with the backstop).

...Pete Willsman, a Senior LP official on the National Executive suspended for further controversial comments re Jews, whilst Alastair Campbell expelled for voting Lib Dem. just shows what a shambles the Party has become and the quality of people at the heart of it.

Rather ironic but apparently, the rules under which Alistair Campbell was expelled were introduced by his mate Tony Blair.

Your point is? 2016 was about appealing to the middle class, which he failed to do, thanks in part to an over reliance on what Momentum thought he should be doing.
Nah, it was their children in 2016 Labour was after. Crippled with education debt with no real hope of ever owning homes the dream had promised them, it was supposed to be 2020, let's remember, Labour had resigned itself to being out office in fixed term Parliament, until 2020, then Cameron lost the referendum and May had system failure and called the 2016 election.

In my experience, with my kids and their mates, they are utterly arsed about Uni fees, and are quite happy renting. It makes good political capital, granted, but they wouldnt need much of a nudge if Corbyn et al stopped saying stuff they think is clap trap, and instead said he would remain in the EU.

Sample size about 6, so not that reliable.

Perception's a funny thing isn't it? Debt for education = worse thing ever, much bigger dept for a house = best thing since sliced bread. Both are largely appreciating investments (unlike a car say), yet we have very different attitudes towards them.

The game is up for Tories Orange book Liberals and Blue labour, them and their cronies, it squeaky bum time.

Feast your eyes on the popularity of public ownership.:coffee:

It depends on how the question is phrased. If it was asked "Do you think the government should spend £55bn (or whatever the figure would be) to nationalise Water/Energy companies, or spend the money on police/NHS/Local Govt" you'd get a different answer.

Groundhog Day, government bonds (gilts) hand them to private companies they then become public.
The trouble is that many people actually think this is what the Tories stand for.

An interesting question is: why is that? how did that come about?
Can't read your link but what I could read states. UK swing voters like Corbyn policies, I tend to agree.

Willsman is an idiot, but he was on the NEC as far back as 1998 and for all the talk of some of what he said being an antisemitic trope it is slightly undermined by the video recordings of an Israeli embassy staffer doing exactly what he claimed.
