Its somewhat besides the point, though at the very least Abbot has been a popular MP for her constituents who broke ground as a black women in politics. But in this instance that isn't the argument here, it's about the disproportionate response to anything involving her

Of course there's an element of racism in the treatment of Diane Abbott, but surely her most devoted supporters must see that she doesn't come across very well. She has a tendency to sound patronising; she opposes private education for other people, yet used a private school for her own son; she has made many high-profile gaffes exposing either a lack of basic preparation or confusion in her own mind about her party's policies; she has made many pro-IRA and anti-British comments in the past and when challenged on this, her reply was that she had changed her hairstyle since then.

Certainly other politicians from across the spectrum have made similar gaffes and errors, and many have been endlessly raised by political opponents. That's how politics works. When you see an opponents's weakness, you pounce on it.

The white male apologies over his deliberate lie to mislead an important debate on policy to effect generations barley a murmur, black female has a sneaky drink and internet goes into meltdown. Easy tiger. I've already said the broohaha over this drinking issue is absurd and is completely unwarranted. The discussion was that Abbotts bungling of numbers etc. should be let off because white male politicians are let off similar gaffs. I think both should be criticized for the poor grasp of their brief. Heaven knows I've been critical of Tories over Brexit plenty over the past few years.

Problem for me with this isn't the silly tart got collared but the deal being made out of it. It's like the inquisition getting hold of the Cathars. There's much more crap to be highlighting than an amateur paraffin on the 5.15.
I get the law/ her position and I think she should be held accountable but compared to selling arms to the Saudis, renting out 2nd homes, sex pests etc a bit of context needs applying.

For me the real problem is that it's actually made her seem likeable.

The only crime that’s been committed is Abbot drinking a M&S Mojito. Frankly I’m disgusted that she’s even justified that impression of a mojito as an actual alcoholic drink. We have a fine tradition of alcohol abuse in this country and she’s trampling all over it.

I literally get a couple of cocktail cans everytime I'm coming back from Waterloo. They're crap but they make me feel momentarily classy. If this leads to a clampdown and my surge towards alcoholism is curtailed i will be fuming.

It's the suggestion Stewart and Abbott are treated equally, the vitriol against Abbott is far worse.

Even Hammond as chancellor (pretty important to have a grasp of figures) when he was £20 billion out over HS2 never received the fevour that Abbott does when she muddles her numbers.

And Stewart act was a deliberate malovent attempt to mislead people with a made up lie, far worse than being a dunce.

Seems Labour are going to jump into bed with the Tories on Brexit, thus delivering the rupture from the EU that Corbyn has always wanted.
