It’s a funny thing. I know a few active members of the LP who have also never witnessed nor would accept any antisemitism. To be honest, they rarely talk about Israel or even foreign policy for that matter. The main issues of concern are the public funding cuts which the Conservative party have implemented. If you’re dealing with people day to day who’ve had benefit cuts, are in rent arrears, are having to use food parcels you’re not going to really be focussed on Israel or an anti Jewish agenda. It’s all a distraction
This is the crux of the matter for me. I´m certain the overwhelming majority of Labour members joined to fight for a better country. I sure as hell don´t see a party that can be labelled as institutionally racist, for me it couldn´t be further from the truth. I want our kids to have the best start in life, I don´t want to see school budgets slashed, I don´t want to see our NHS torn apart, I don´t want to see anyone discriminated against for whatever reason, I don´t want to see our country partake in illegal wars... The list could go on and on.
What doesn´t feature on the list is antisemitism. Do the media seriously believe that one of the biggest political parties in the western world is built around a hatred of Jews? Of course they don´t but it´s an allegation they love because it´s gained momentum and has the potential to crush a movement that challenges the status quo.
Meanwhile, all this happening and you´ve got the architect of the Windrush scandal dancing her way towards taking the country to the oblivion. It should be on the front page of the newspapers every day, as well being headline news on the BBC what the Tories have done and are doing to people´s lives yet barely a whisper because apparently antisemitism is rife in the Labour Party.
More fool us pandering towards them and the media like it will make a blind bit of difference. We´ve now reached the point where they, the actual party full of bigots are lecturing us on racism. You really couldn´t make it up.
