yes, but the trouble for them is that they are hemmed in by those who do vote Tory, who will never allow younger voters what they had handed to them by the state

the Party knows there is a problem, but all they can muster politically are tepid, even counterproductive reforms, like Help to Buy, for instance - most of those who've taken advantage earn over £50k, and all it has served to accomplish has been driving prices up further still, as developers have predictably responded by pricing it in.

the £112m bonus for the Persimmon boss was not because he actually contributed anything, but simply because of the firm's Help to Buy windfall

I agree with all of that mate. This is why there is deep structural problems for the Conservatives and deep divisions.

Do you seriously believe that. People who vote Tory, not the few bankers and the millionaires, want their kids and everyone else to have similar opportunities. I want everyone to have what I had, a grammar school education, but if I said that all labour supporters will never allow kids what they had, it would be equally stupid, even though 90% of Labour politicians had that opportunity. Apart from the 5% of nutters on both sides of the coin, everyone else wants everyone to have a decent chance in life and dismissing this is just tribalism......

Pete this is why the Tory vote is in the process of collapsing; it is becoming increasingly obvious that even Tory voters of long standing will not see their kids (never mind everyone else) have similar opportunities. There will be no stable careers, no affordable housing (especially in the South East), no significant nest-egg to hand down to the kids - even enjoying the countryside or easy and cheap foreign holidays will be beyond them. All of it has been sacrificed on the altar of getting donors to stump up cash to keep the party going.

Take Lee Rowley as an example - one of the very few Tory success stories of the 2017 GE, working class, local, a (suprisingly) decent career before politics. He accurately represents his constituents and is vocally objecting to fracking taking place in his rural constituency, and what is the result? He is ignored, the fracking is approved in the face of almost universal local opposition, and the Government no longer asks people what they think of fracking because they already know the answer and are going to do it anyway. Meanwhile the pro-Brexit owner of the firm doing the fracking sods off to Monaco to spend more time with his money.

The shoeing they are going to get at the next election should come as no surprise to anyone.

He knows exactly which policies that will pull in the voters that's for sure.
There’s some odd policy. Like it isn’t true that Google make money off every search, and in many ways they make more independent journalism available than anything else since the dawn of the printing press.

In which Jezza has another hairbrained scheme. It’s like ideas written in a 15 year olds jotter.

“There are a series of proposals for the BBC, including publishing the social class of "all creators of BBC content, whether in-house or external"

Jesus wept.

The BBC is basically upper middle class and speaks mainly to 50+ year olds. It's dead in the water as it stands. To be honest I'm not sure why I pay a licence fee, I've watched 3 part series on BBC4 in 2018. My children and most likely their friends don't really know it exists.

Why should the social class of contributors be published like it has any bearing? Should their political persuasions, race and sexuality also be published?

The BBC covers more than enough for everyone.

It covers PPE crowd and does poverty porn very well, conscience cleaner for the upper class. The Upper classes can stand at the spring filled water cooler, talk about the BBC latest poverty porn for 5 mins, its poverty addressed.
Don't think the BBC covers the UK at all it speaks to a narrow group, at a guess a narrowing group due to age, and younger people not seeing it as a viable source of media.

Anyone slagging off the BBC and wanting it binned, just look across the pond at what we will get in its place. It has its faults (all big companies do) but it still light years ahead of Fox news etc. This is what we would get - right wing agenda driven crap unless of course we get a left leaning TV/media broadcaster but you know there is no chance of this.

Labour are not wanting the BBC scrapped, over the pond has already happened! Anyway, if it makes the Right Wingers squeak, then it obviously has merit.

It's a poor/stupid idea, but the BBC needs thoroughly sorting without a doubt.

I see you swerved the question about publishing other demographical data. Interesting that..

The BBC covers a huge crowd, if there's anyone who doesn't interact with at least momentarily in their week then they are living a somewhat sheltered existence. Not everything has to be about Politics, Inequality or Poverty either, people are allowed to enjoy things on a less serious level.

It's depressing how much it's followed other media and how some news stories will be a collage of tweets based around an event. It's news output has been on the slide for the past few years.
