Who saw it coming... ?

He's literally on here boasted about taking money out of the exchequer by pre-emptively dodging inheritance tax, and has the gall to try to lecture people on businesses raising money for public services despite running a failing pub into the ground (I wonder how much of it gets written off against his massive private pensions).

Utter clown.

Hahahaha… and btw my pub still exists, and will continue to do so…unlike your credibility……..

Don't forget the somehow pensioner age 40% tax threshold, and his many admittances to being involved in selling arms. love of thatcher, and boris and hate for the pygmies in between and sunak.

It's almost like some impossible apparition spouting off about rule britannias former days of glory manifest.

Do either of you have a clue how business works, how it’s private companies and not the public sector that generate money in order to pay for the things you would want. I don’t know why I’m asking tbh, it’s fairly obvious that neither of you do…unless of course you can prove me wrong in which case I would apologise and retract my comment…over to you two……
Pete didn't you just say you needed government assistance to keep your business afloat and you still barely break even or operate at a small loss over the last SIX years? Are you sure you know how to run a private business?

I do get that when your party is in opposition, being "on the attack" is easier. Labour (will) have a record to defend and are implementing policy, which means daft old coots like Pete get to slag off the changes that are being made that affect them. That's all fair game, and of course any of us on the Left that prefer fair societies get to attack a Tory government as it slashes spending and awards millionaires with extra cash. That's the basics of the 2 party game.

Where Pete errs though is in vacillating between the "Poor me and my staff thanks to Labour" and "I'm personally not suffering, still paying higher rate tax through my pensions mate" positions which makes any point he makes seem completely disingenuous. There's just this ineffable Tory streak that forces him to boast about income that cuts the legs away from complaints about being hard up and having to put 20p on his pints or sack staff.

And because he adopts this untenable position it starts to become defensive again... "Do you actually know anything about business" etc. I'd say it's sad to see an old soak flounder around when they should be on the high ground, but ultimately you have to lie in the bed you've made for yourself.

The old boy's certainly done himself no favours recently in terms of credibility.

No, the grants that Boris paid out were of benefit to small businesses who could not trade during Covid but still had standing costs, reduced power, rates, accountants, etc. They helped. Yes we operate on break even. Of course if I ran the pub myself with my daughter then we would be picking up the wages of the manager and members of the staff and would do quite well. But that would mean sacking the manager and several staff members. I don’t need the money as it’s a hobby and my daughter has her own job so I’d rather employ others, like I employ gardeners and decorators etc. it’s a lifestyle choice and works for me…….

If that's how you choose to run it, then fair play, and I don't think even Rita would find fault in that.

And yet neither you nor Poon can show any experience nor knowledge of running any kind of business…but don’t worry Poon may need an assistant in the BBQ hut and I’m sure you would work well together…..
