It is a hobby, but either we do this or have to lose staff. I’ve been subsidising it for six years, I have no problem with not making any money and we usually break even or just below, but there comes a time like now where the costs of beer, energy, wages and national insurance mean that action has to be taken to ensure it’s continuity…our customers understand…….

I did it to save the pub for the village. It would by now have had several very expensive houses in the car park had I not done so and half a dozen people in the village would have had no job. We managed through Covid and Boris helped the hospitality industry and small businesses such as ours with grants. I piped up now because the idiots currently in charge haven’t a clue to the damage they are causing. It’s only going to get worse and over 1,000 pubs will close this year and god knows how many restaurants. It is forecast that the budget will destroy over 100,000 jobs, even the OBR suggest at least 50,000. Meanwhile smug people like yourself have no idea of the damage being caused……
