Personally I fully back that. There’s no reason in the world to get behind the wheel when you’ve been drinking. 35 years ago my then 14 year old cousin was knocked off his bike and killed by a drunk driver, I’d go even further and support mandatory 15 year sentence’s if you cause death whilst drunk driving.

The father on QT was asking why his sons killer hadn't been to court yet since the incident* in 2022, under suspicion of driving over the limit.

He also made a point about adverts not being aired pushing the DD issue, and that we're at a 30 year high for DD arrests.

I don’t expect everyone to agree with my position but if anyone can give me 1 good reason to drive a car after having a beer then I’m happy to listen to their opinion.

I can see the fathers point, I can also see the 17 year old lad that got hammered by the pigs for drink driving (and he was very wrong to do that) that then went home and hanged himself. One size fits all determinism usually ends up fitting no one. We are a people of progression and reform and rehabilitation.

In no way am I or can I defend drink drivers, nor drivers that kill. We'd have to shift a lot of other sentencing to accommodate more draconian specific sentences.

If you've got the cash to go out boozing, you've the cash to get a taxi home. There are no excuses.

Meanwhile confidence in the U.K. both from a business and personal level is going down the toilet. This is reflected in share price decline which is a decent indicator of confidence. We’re screwed I’m afraid. The upshot will be that the tax take will tumble, so even more pain will have to be added to maintain public services or they will have to be cut. Starmer really doesn’t have a clue and the country can only hope that the Labour Party ditch him sharpish….

Oh, and when he brings in the removal of small business rate relief, which councils are now preparing for, small shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants will close putting hundreds of thousands onto the dole…the young especially will feel this pain, as indeed will their customers…sheer madness…..
