Pay your 'kin taxes, Judas.

And while they are at it…

“Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves are cancelling the winter fuel allowance for pensioners and are calling upon us to make sacrifices and accept difficult financial decisions. This is a grave and unnecessary injustice that will cause great hardship among older people.

It would therefore be consistent and appropriate for MPs to lose their own fuel allowance that they get to cover utility costs for a second home linked to their work as an MP, and share the pain with pensioners. And if they aren't willing to do that the Government should drop plans to scrap the Winter Fuel Allowance”

The very least they can do is allow a HoC debate on WFA, but they are frightened of doing this…

Maybe Starmer could offer to donate the cash equivalent of all the freebies he's run up as DPP, LOTO, and PM to a worthy cause...I dunno...maybe Age Concern or a fuel poverty charity?

Here is a man who has clearly long had a taste for comfort: when he was director of prosecutions, taxpayers reportedly coughed up nearly £250,000for his travel costs, including first-class flights and a chauffeur-driven car. Apparently he deemed the latter a requirement, even though he lived just five or so miles from the Crown Prosecution Service offices, which were easily accessible through a direct tube journey. Notably, he claimed nearly three times more expenses than his successor, who had the job for the same amount of time.

Look at this behaviour as Labour leader, and something of a pattern emerges. By last summer, Starmer had accepted more freebies than all Labour leaders since 1997 combined. As analysis by openDemocracy uncovered, that included multiple gifts from wealthy donors and companies, days at the races, an Adele gig, two Coldplay concerts and hospitality at Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur matches.

In total, he received £76,000 worth of freebies in the last parliament. These ranged from hotel stays to more than 20 football tickets (bear in mind that, as leader of the opposition, his £128,291 annual salary hardly left him wanting). Throw in VIP tickets courtesy of the Premier League to see Taylor Swift, worth £4,000, during the general election campaign and, well, you get the gist.

Notably, Starmer also received “work clothing” worth an astonishing £16,200, and “multiple pairs of glasses” worth £2,485 from the Labour lord and businessperson Waheed Alli.

It's a ridiculous own goal to try and enforce a smoking/vaping ban in public spaces.

With all the misery the Tories have put on this country why pin your tails to the mast against one of the few pleasures a significant percentage of the population have left and against the pub environment?

I quit smoking about 3 years ago, now I vape. I enjoy pubs, no way I'm going there if I can't even vape outside

What's the benefit? Pay loads for ale? Have to vape down the road?

Nah my business is gone and so will many others be. Maybe they'll miss us, maybe they won't. Amount of pub closures year on year says they will.

The pub culture in this country is absolutely being destroyed. Pubs serve as a community hub in this country, when they are gone they won't return and society will feel it's impact in ways it can't currently comprehend

Good article from the Irish News- hopefully readable if you zoom in:

All the nonsense about growth Starmer and Reeves say they 'want'. That's the last thing their real masters in the City of London financial institutions want.

Starmer has said he wants to “preserve and protect” the City’s “powerhouse” status. He and Reeves have courted City institutions reassuring them for years - no doubt telling them that they'll still have primacy in policy considerations. Finance capital doesn't want a strong and confident working class buoyed by employment security and decent wages and conditions. They see that as the way to the 'common people' getting ideas above their station: like wanting more power to themselves - and that can create problems for the City who make their cash as centres of trade precisely because Britain is a safe place to trade from and where it owns owns government.

That's why you've seen public investment projects for health, transportation and energy promised in the election ditched and a 'financial black hole' blamed for it.

This lot will sicken the people who voted for them in short order. They work for very rich people, not for them.

I’ve said it before, once a pub is gone, it’s gone, so support it if you can. We had two pubs in our village, one became housing twenty years ago. We bought ours to save it for the village. I’m not sure it’ll put too many people off and there is no way I’m paying staff to act as Starmers police commissars, I’ll put signs up, but unless the police turn up (which they won’t) life will probably continue as normal until the next election when smokers and pensioners will get rid of him. Of course if we have to close because of this then the village will be a poorer place because of it….

erm...

Last month, Conservative MP John Glen asked, external the new Labour government if it was planning to reduce the number of domestic flights taken by minister.

In response Cabinet Office minster Ellie Reeves did not say if the number would be cut back but said travel plans would be “decided with consideration of the best use of a minister’s time and in the interests of the taxpayer”.

Using domestic flights allowed ministers to "visit more parts of the United Kingdom" and reduced the need for overnight accommodation, she added.

So basically they will just carry on as usual but hide it under a different heading…….

The only codswallop being spouted is by Labour attempting to dream up excuses regarding the winter fuel allowance. The latest piece of ludicrous nonsense came from the ‘leader of the house’ Lucy Powell who declared they had to do it otherwise there would be a run on the pound. She is being rightly denounced and laughed at by economists. Why are they so frightened of having a debate in Parliament, over something affecting 10 million people. It’s simple, Starmer is a coward, Reeves cannot defend it and they hate the thought that Labour MP’s would speak up against it. A truly disgusting approach which will not be forgotten. Not even staunch Labour supporters are attempting to defend this because they know just how pathetic it is…….

It doesn't affect 10million people.

10 million people will be affected, they know this number. How the 10 million are affected they won’t tell us because in their rush to get it through while Parliament was closed they hadn’t done an impact assessment so Reeves doesn’t have a clue. They won’t discuss it in Parliament where they might be asked questions about numbers and cost to which they would have to provide verbal or written answers. Shambles doesn’t even come close to describing this fiasco….
