A black hole exists if you actually spend the money, which Labour has just done…

So the black hole is as a result of the last 14 weeks, not the last 14 years? The OBR and the experts have it wrong? The Tories didn't leave unfunded areas of government?

Maybe you should acquaint yourself with reality before accusing others of doing that Peter?

“ As a final aside, I talk to lots of Tory voters. I spoke to one yesterday for lunch, an MCC member who worked in the foreign office. He hates Johnson, worked under him and says hes a bully and people can't stand him.”

I imagine many civil servants hated him because he wanted a job done, and I imagine the same people will love Starmer and Reeves as their new benefactors…….

Did you read the article….

Everything he said is correct and sadly has to happen to try and fix the last 14 years of inherited mess. He's not going to just print money.

He’s going to frighten money away from the U.K. and its taxation. The additional expected upping of CGT sounds great until you realise it’s not paid until an asset is sold, now do you really think people with money will sell assets or wait until regime change. The only people who will pay it will, as always, be the ‘working people’….. the tax take will probably go down….

Well as a working person my taxes were at record levels under the Tories Pete.

It's another moment where reality sort of compounds your little fantasy world.

Where do you think you get money from? I pay Cgt on assets too, and I am not against equalizing the taxation system at all

Fair enough. He's a Tory member and voter. I doubt he likes Starmer that much, but didn't ask him. He likes Hunt.

But I talk to Tories. I talk to anybody who's willing to talk to me. But it makes no difference to being to analyse data.

Yes. The OBR have confirmed there was a blsck hole in the finances, so I don't really know what relevance it has.

And I mean this politely, but if I want to understand economics I'm not going to listen to Kate Andrews, who has the ability of your bog standard 2nd year undergrad. She's utterly clueless. Her ideas were tried, and nearly tanked the pension industry.

She believes in the fairy tales of Hayek and Friedman but unfortunately has never done a days work in the real world, so has no understanding how humans work.

I disagree with that, but we will see. There's a hell of a mess to clean up, I'll grant you Covid didn't help, that's been a global financial strain on many countries, but isolating themselves via Brexit has slowed the UK's growth in comparison to the rest of Europe, so it's going to be extra hard for Labour to dig out of the Tory hole.

And what comes next…do the Police and Army stand down if it gets a bit warm….

“ All employees should have the right to stop working under a national maximum temperature for workplaces, a major union has told Sir Keir Starmer.

Under the proposals, outlined by the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU), employers would have to ensure temperatures did not exceed 27 degrees for strenuous work or 30 degrees for sedentary work.

It also wants a “heatwave furlough scheme” where workers are guaranteed they are paid the same if production has to stop because of excessive temperatures.”

Good idea this.

I get to stay home if it goes above or below a certain temperature because of my asthma.

I’ve never used that privilege though.

I put my body on the line for this country.

“ Many Labour MPs are furious that a policy to restrict winter fuel payments was announced shortly before the pricing decision by the energy regulator, which had been known about and predicted for many months.

The Labour MP for York Central, Rachael Maskell, said that changes to the policy were needed if Labour were to show that it really cared about the poorest and most vulnerable.

She said: “With winter on its way, when parliament returns, MPs will need a package of support to reassure our constituents that Labour will help them through this winter with their energy costs.

“Many will struggle if the Social Fund Winter Fuel Payment Regulations 2024 pass in September without changes being made or being withdrawn altogether.”

We are outperforming many countries in the EU including Germany and Italy, or did they not recover because of Brexit……
