People who just don’t want to work…..
Nothing, let them do what they want.

It has no impact on your life, as above, you have everything you need, so why concern yourself with others?

Right?

spending.webp

If you asked me how to "fix things", I would renationalise everything that Thatcher, still dead, stole from the UK people and give the profits back to this country. But thats just me.

We give 2% more money to people who've had their whole life to set themselves up over people who are trying to make something of themselves and start their lives. Interesting. That's 23 billion per year more right?

Its the "I did this attitude, so everybody else should have".

We dont all live the same life, follow the same path, some of us wonder off the path, some take other paths, you know?

Theres enough for everybody, this idea that its their fault or its their fault, is laughable, theres enough to go round, but some take more than they need.

Exactly, and although I've been sarcastic in this thread a few times I'm genuinely not advocating taking from the old to give to the poor, as you say there should be plenty to go around but perhaps that's in a Davek alternate reality where capitalism doesn't exist. At this point in time, costs need to be cut, distributed to where it's needed most.

Well Pete, I seem to remember you telling me Trump would win in 2020 and the Tories would win in 2024, so politely I'm not going to take your view particularly seriously.

Aside from that, the 33% is terrifying. They can't be driven much lower. They won't get lower than Corbyn.

They have to win voters from Labour and Lib Dems. Forget Reform, their voters are dying off and don't get you any seats. Unless you win those voters, you go extinct.

And please, don't patronize us with this magical thinking it's only Tories who withholding votes. John Curtace has rubbished this. The votes went down across the board for ALL parties. But lots of Tories went to Labour/Lib Dems. They are the ones you need to win back.

Echoed here as any other-

There's a desperation from the left for Starmer to fail immediately. To try and usher in a hard left takeover.

The same desperation from the right, but to usher the Conservatives straight back in, or even Reform.

And to hell with the country. What does that matter. Remarkable stuff, and a damning indictment of our polarised politics.

And honestly, I want Starmer to fail and the left to win. I can't stand the weasel. But objectively he is in a very strong position.

I don't agree with the policy, and quite honestly Id agree with the view that we should properly tax wealth to solve the problems inequality has caused. But Starmer is never going to do that. While the Tories may say he is elected on that basis, he didn't stand on that basis (and why it was kinda stupid trying to make him out as a far left stooge).

In reality as a cohort the oldest in society have seen the asset value (wealth) rise enormously over the last 30 years, particularly the last 30. They have also seen their income rise well above inflation, while people in work have had their wages held down. It's a pretty obvious first win for Labour, and honestly think lots of working people will not mind at all. This has been a deliberate choice too, the Tories have favoured older, out of work people over working age poeple.

The fact the tories are so upset with the idea that giving people who not working less, to give working people a bit more to me shows out of touch they are.

I think you will find that I said Labour would win in 2024….

Well let’s put it this way, I worked from the age of 16 until I retired, paid millions in taxes, paid for all my kids to get through University without debt, helped them all to buy houses and put money aside for my grandkids. I am an unpaid carer for my wife, the government ignores carers living off a pension that was raided by Gordon Brown, so is about one quarter of what is should be, and am still employing people who would otherwise be on the dole. I’ve done my bit. There are jobs out there, but some people will never want to apply or do them. So what would you suggest…..l
He had a wicked pension plan

Is that correct? Surely we don't spend 4.8% on defence, I thought it was about 2 - 2.5%
