You haven't read it properly then.

Most of those 2 million predicted to fall into fuel poverty dont qualify for Pension Credit and therefore the winter fuel payment...they fall just outside being able to claim for it after being means tested just above the line. They'll be the ones who'll be affected most.

That's the point that AGE UK and other charities are making.
They’ll just have yo stay in the garden centres for longer then drinking more expensive coffee and eating £10 sandwiches

@Sean Ashley I am not a pensioner.
Never voted tories never will.
Had it so good ?
Went on strike with the print, union,
For the nurses ect while she was in power , thrown out of the print union for being militant, been a union member all my working life.
Had more stike days than i care to remember, hardly a Thatcher enablers stance.
Obviously it was a paradise in Liverpool in the 70,s and 80s unemployed off the scale ,
city run down ect.
60s Like a lot of my generation born in tenements low income parents and poverty that thankfully most today don't have to face.
Will not bore you with the details.
Wages low the majority of the time.
First wage was £18.90.a week. , average house was around £10.500. Do the maths it's over ten times. My yearly income at the time.
nothing like that now , 10 times the average wage these day would get you what ?
I could buy two decent houses for ten times my yearly income now.
oh don't forget the Interest rates average was about 9% going up to 17% in the late seveties .
Yes we had it so good.
Thatcher stopped the feeling of community it was about us not me till she popped up.
Definitely a lack of community these days , not taking up union membership ect.as an example
Computers were not around when people were growing up , neither were mobile phones ,
they were not an everyday item and not in daily use as a norm so nobody taught them.
Would have been pretty hard in classes of 40 odd anyway.
my kids have been brought into a world that they will never know poverty or hardship , thanks to my hard work , standing up for there rights and getting offf my arse, doing multiple jobs at the same time to make sure they didnt
Many more of my generation did the same, same as others before them.
Ps I am dyslexic , but have passed numerous courses and qualified, in funny enough Computer skills, care work, and teaching assistant, all while working full time.
That motivated enough for you?
I don't begrudge anybody getting anything because it could be me one day needing it.
We will leave a society more healthy, better educated , housed , travelled ect than the one that we were brought into.
hopefully you will as well.

Dont you think that pensioners are means tested enough?

Obviously not.

2 million more people falling into fuel poverty is the projection at this latest means tested benefit.

Still, you get to make smart Alec comments about them, which is the main thing.

moneysavingexpert.com

Should help you get the information you need to get all the benefits you are entitled to.

Really active forum too, if you can find the time

Thats all well and good, but aren't you supposed to be collecting that new caravan awning from Go Outdoors this morning to go with the three you already have in your garage?

Yes, just all the 'rich' ones though. The 8 million who can cope. The other 2 million will go into fuel poverty.

On average 7,000 people each winter in the UK die of the cold conditions they live in. That'll rise again as a result of the ending of winter fuel payments.

'Choices', eh.

That comment is so out of touch with reality. Are you joking?

Yeah, choices, your Tory mates left the country in a mess.

Special K is just trying to get us back on our feet.

Tough choices mean that the people who dont need the money, no longer get it.
