That’s bollox though Dave isn’t it. Those who need it will get it… those who don’t won’t …. Quite simple really.
No, that's not the case. You should read the reports of charities like Age UK and then you'd stop repeating the BS Red Tory propaganda that the 'rich pensioners' are the only one's who wont get the winter fuel payment.

The pitfall of means testing is some pensioners will lose the winter fuel allowances by just a few £s
Plus the extra work involved by the DWP - as the computers are out of date new in Gordon Brown's era etc savings will be under 1 billion plus approximately an extra million OAPs unaware they were entitled to Pension Credit worth with perks worth £5.400 net for each claim free glasses etc etc

A stupid idea as soon as she realised Jeremy Hunt had cut NI twice unfunded costing £9 billion the high earners main benefactors - she should have reverend it immediately thats Almost the deficit black hole cut by a 1/3 in one go
Keir starmers no austerity lasted 2 weeks ....

A success story for the government: they're going ahead with reopening large scale migrant prisons with histories of a toxic culture of abuse and disastrous mental heath issues including numerous suicide attempts. They'll facilitate the mass removal of immigrants arriving in boats and those hunted down by Immigrant Enforcement officers who roam the country's workplaces searching for them. They hope to have kicked out 14,000 migrant workers and asylum seekers in the next 6 months.

Congratulations go especially to Yvette Cooper.
I have a friend who has worked in these and they’re horrific places

Obviously getting rid of the Rwanda plan and Bibby Stockholm was great news but Labour are still scared to be seen as weak on immigration.

At what cap should the winter payments been placed at?

The NI are a huge help to the working class, and allowing me the right to save and spend my hard earned money.

Really pensioners are lucky the pension age has been so low for decades given the average life expectancy, it should already be 70.

By time I retire it will be over 70 if not closer to 75, due to the selfish nature of the current older population. Who wants to take every penny they can.

If you’re in need of it, you apply for it and if you meet the criteria you’ll get it. Sounds fair to me.

Mate pensioners leave billions of pounds of benifits un claimed every year due to not knowing they can get them or cannot apply due to the complex nature of claiming, ie the forms for attendance allowance is over a dozen pages long,
lots are not computer savvy either.
Sadly the me me society that exists these days a lot of the younger generations has lost respect for older people
it all about them until they themselves get old.
Selfish self obsessed and no sense of community anymore, thatchers children I call, them it's all about me sod everyone else .
Most pensioners would be on an income that would get them benifits just under a different name to a pension anyway.

Interesting. Mostly looks like it will target the very well off. Pensions relief reducing might upset a few, especially as more have moved into the higher tax brackets due to fiscal drag in the last few years.

The devil will be in the detail, but a lot of those measures are upsetting to the Torygraph demographic, hence that organs hysterical shrieking.

Capital gains might be one to be cautious on - would surely just jack some prices up as folk try to compensate?

You should tag me in if you want to take a shot mate. Calling me a child of Thatcher is a disgrace with no shred of evidence to connect the two groups.

Your generation has had more opportunity and more gains to exploit then any generation before you and any that come after you. From the best pensions, best incentives for home ownership, best gains in the stock market., biggest gains in property values, best child benefit help, and the cheapest work force and grocery bills during the majority of your working life.

If anything you allowing Thatcher 11 years to rule this country which has led to its current predicament means you are nothing more than a Thatcher enabler.

Also your point on older folk not being computer savvy, when they have had 30+ years to get up to date shows the lack of motivation and thought your generation really has.

Biggest barrier is older persons believing they are "scroungers" if they claim.

Pension credit is simple and information is included state pension stuff , attendance allowance is given with out face to face assessment and never re-assed, nothing you cant do yourself if you can read and write, if not Family Friends Age Concern Citizen Advice, most if not all social landlords have advisers that will do this.

It's the Starmer Party's natural position. They're not 'acting tough on migrants' for an audience, they actually do loathe them every bit as much as the other Tories do. The clues were all there in Starmer's career as a DPP.

Not computer savvy hey, but tap away all day on their various devices here...

You haven't read it properly then.

Most of those 2 million predicted to fall into fuel poverty dont qualify for Pension Credit and therefore the winter fuel payment...they fall just outside being able to claim for it after being means tested just above the line. They'll be the ones who'll be affected most.

That's the point that AGE UK and other charities are making.

Also I'd like to add to the comment about younger people only worrying about their pension when they get old.

Well I'm not even 30 and have a mortgage and a private pension pot worth 3x my salary. So really what is your excuse.

That's without an inheritance.

This is good news for my kids and given detail in article and is well on its way to be reality, and hopefully the beginning to moving back too "freedom of movement"

Think its goes like this in essence "I voted Brexit I voted Tory or Greens in hope of getting Tory Government got fooked over and now i blame younger people and Labour" for my choices".
