It’s the government, not the boomers, who set the pension, including both Blair and Brown. However it was Blair and Brown immediately who raided pension funds and ruined the pensions of millions so they could spend on their client state. Starmer is doing exactly the same, so point your finger at those in power and not the ‘boomers’ ,you know, your parents and grandparents, who seem to be incorrectly blamed for everything…..
Come on Pete. Don't be naive. Look at the protests (not just here but elsewhere) about attempts to change the retirement age. People kick up all manner of fuss when their entitlements are changed, just as you're doing right now. So it's the easiest thing in the world to say that pension reform should happen to make it sustainable in the long-term, but the reality is that governments prefer to kick that can down the road for the next lot to sort out. It's like debt. It's just piled on as it's jam today, so we've got the spectre of both debt and the state pension swallowing up ever larger amounts of the budget, with the demographic situation meaning that fewer workers are able to pay for it (and those same retirees generally opposed to the kind of migration that might boost the workforce).

Hunt is and was an idiot. The NI reduction was pure stupidity and should be reversed, but I doubt she will do so……
Hopefully we are beginning move out of the Tory nightmare. With interest rate cut.

By the way cynic in me would suggest it was targeted as most pensioners dont vote Labour anyway despite such policy pension credit put their by previous Labour government. So pensioners politically at least are of little consequence, a lesson in dont bite the hand that feeds you...

The man thinks he's a socialist. I think you might struggle there, B.

Sorry, that's probably an uncalled for jibe/interjection on my part, but it's quite possibly one of the most comedic things I've read on here. This week.

I said during the election that the Labour Party's shift to right and their hammering of the left, talking up 'The Flag', and strong worded statements about dealing with migrants would necessitate left groups outside parliament and trade unionists to get on the streets to destroy this creeping fascism.

Starmer's created the conditions where the Far Right feel emboldened enough to try and own the streets.

One thing stops them: it's not the insipid words of a coward like Starmer, it's the re-activation of the Anti-Nazi League and chasing the vermin back under the rocks they crawled out of. Oh, and apprehend Robinson and put him and his close henchmen in prison for 20 years minimum.

Absolute garbage.

It's been emboldened by the tories, social media, Brexit, Farage.

It's been bubbling for the last ten years.

Wrapping himself in the Union Jack, telling the Red Wall voters he'll be tougher and more effective on migration than the Tories, attacking groups who oppose genocide in Gaza and suspending any LP member who his party deem to be 'anti-semitic'...all that has been dog whistles to the EDL and Robinson.

They've marched way over to the right wing and now it's down to extra-parliamentary forces to fill the vacuum once more to see off the fascists.

Hahaha.

Is there anything that isn't Starmer's fault?

The weather?

When he's taken his party so far to the right and away from traditional anti-racist Labour values, he has to own this. There's a consequence to pandering to the nationalism of people he sought to attract at the polls - this is it.

To blame Starmer for the uprising of the far right, rather than the people and their mouth pieces is a terrible take within a growing number of terrible takes from you.

Obviously you know this. But hated filled people love to spread their hate.

Yeah, with nearly a third of all children living in poverty in the UK thanks in the main by pensioners voting habits, they can feel a bit of hardship for once and pay their leccy bills themselves.
The old and the young make up the a lot of the most vulnerable parts of our society. I would prefer that both of these sections of society were spared the feeling of hardship.

Blaming pensioners is a way of dividing society as much as blaming welfare cheats or immigrants. Don't fall into this. How many rich pensioners do you know? I know hardly any.

Fair point, well made.

You're absolutely right.

So you think hes created a far right rebellion in 5 weeks?

It had nothing to do with Trump, Farage, Brexit?

It was all down to Starmer? For, *checks notes, displaying a Union Jack?
Posted in the Neo-Nazi thread that lots of these horrors voted Reform. They're definitely emboldened and that's not to do with a feeling of vindication or shared sentiment due to a Labour victory.

This rhetoric has been properly whipped up during the election (and before) and they're all convinced 'the establishment' is against them or doing notjing for Britain/England etc. That would include one Sir Keir Starmer.

10/10 for bait posting goes to the Davekmeister. Must be laughing his knackers off.
