And yet no one on here is calling out this assault on the pensioners. Hypocrites as far as the eye can see. If this had been done by the Tories I would have been the first to decry it, everybody else would have too because it was the nasty Tories, Starmer, Rayner and Reeves would have been all over it. But because it’s Labour, silence, defend the indefensible, I’ll take no lessons in humanity from many in here…….

You would have decried it out of self interest and not for moral reasons Pete

You can't take the moral high ground on this one when you've been morally bankrupt so many other times

I personally don't think the government should be "assaulting" any group, and I'll defend pensioners with the same zeal I'd defend other groups

You wouldn't, and indeed you haven't

This was you in 2017 Pete https://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/2017-general-election.95980/page-214#post-5469439

Why does he believe that ? What possible reason is there for giving someone on £99,000 an additional £200 ? I can't even believe that a 'soak the rich' Labour person would take such a position......it just shows that someone who is incapable of accepting that any kind of benefit should be withdrawn or amended, even one as obvious in his own particular case, is incapable of ever being Chancellor........but because we all know he never will be then he can say whatever he wants....

Well maybe you should

Anyone supporting this disgraceful and spiteful act against pensioners has no right to call themselves socialists….. @davek is spot on with this, Starmer and his gang are more right wing than the cretins they’ve replaced….

Right off the bat: they've CHOSEN to keep 11 million kids in poverty; take a vital winter fuel payment off 11 million pensioners; and decided to keep in place a punishing piece of legislation that fails to cap care costs.

Now some of those who misjudged how bad they'd be - having chosen to ignore those of us counselling them how bad they'd be in office - are making excuses up for them...the people who wanted to get the Tories out so bad, they now defend Tory-type policy implementation.

What a palaver.

As I said at the time: marry in haste, repent at leisure.

And I’m still of the same opinion. But there are apparently 800,000 pensioners who would qualify for it, but for whatever reason haven’t, age, illness, Parkinson’s or whatever and as I’ve said the application form for such people is 24 pages long with over 240 questions. Perhaps you could volunteer to help such a person to apply, because no one else will…….

@Goat fancy this one instead?

Interestingly, I note that the welfare claim page was last changed last year

I suspect I can find your complaints about it last year if I look? Or when it was published in 2020? Or indeed at any point since Pension Credit was introduced in 2003?

As an aside, it's interesting that the £173.50 a week a single pensioner gets is (justifiably) right and affordable, yet the £37.50 an asylum seeker gets to live on is an abhorrent waste of money.
