I'm willing to pay more taxes to do my bit in trying to get the country working again. I'm willing to see things that benefit me get cut to do my bit in trying to get the country working again. I accept that people I don't agree with will get help from the state if they need it.

All I ask is that the government tries to do its best within rational grounds.

And yet we have people raging at benefit scroungers, who complain that their benefits are being means tested, who forgive the Tories 14 years of incompetence and tens of billions of waste, yet who demand that Labour take responsibility 3 weeks in for trying to scrape 500 million from somewhere.

They'd probably dismiss any countenance of closer ties to the EU to try and up our growth as well. I have very little to no sympathy for these people, they are the enemy within.
I am willing and ask the same. However I do demand that Labour take responsibility from the moment they took charge. The Tories ran this country into the ground and eventually were kicked out and if Labour take responsibility and they don't go for the kamikaze style over-spending for little to no return of the last government then the Conservatives could be out for more than one term.

Alignment of our trading/ manufacturing/ standards with the EU is eminently sensible in promoting growth and should help with trade and relations after the bungling of Brexit. Stopping the insane Rwanda plan also sensible.

What I am worried about is the the halting of infrastructure projects that can also promote growth and introduction of new taxes just to pay the price for union support- I want those public sector workers to regain their standard of living but I have a huge nagging doubt about the way Labour will do this will be to pull non-public sector workers and benefit claimers more into the mire.

I do hope I am wrong but I will be criticising them as hardly as I did the Tories. Maybe more so as I expect better from them.

It's strange how the Tory mantra is "pave your own way" but when they lose something they throw the toys out of the pram.

Correct, shouldn’t they be saying that ‘those pensioners should have just worked harder in their working life, so as not to be so dependent on the state in retirement?’

For what it’s worth I don’t agree with this Labour call, would have far preferred them not to have done it.

My parents will be directly affected, as they will lose out, but by the same token they’ve used it every year to go out for a meal, or spends on their holidays - not for winter fuel, so they didn’t need it at all, was more like a little bonus for them.

That is exactly what it was, a bonus for the pensioners who are the Tories biggest supporters.

I would very much doubt it. Imagine you are in your late 70’s or early 80’s, to claim Pension Credit requires you to fill in a ‘simple’ online form that is 24 pages long with just over 240 individual questions requiring a response. It isn’t going to happen…..
Those most in need will be looked after. Maybe some will have to cut down their visits to the cafe to just 4 times a week…

I’m all for them not giving money to people who don’t need it.

Your government caused this though. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Voting Tory to try and align yourself with the posh people 🙄 so shallow, delusional and self centred. You aren’t one of them, you are just one of their subjects.
Here here.

Absolutely spot on.

Please don’t try and excuse this hypocritical and spiteful act by a supposedly Labour government. Just accept that it’s a disgusting and disgraceful act. Is this really what people who wanted Labour voted for. Come on guys own up, this affects your parents and grandparents…who voted for this to happen…..
Maybe ask Michelle Moane (?) to give her dodgy money back, or Matt wanksocks pub landlord… or Chris graylings brother in law captain pugwash…. It’s not like he had any boats to soend it on …. Im sure that would cover all payments and more

Not just a Labour thing, huh?

Indeed the Telegraph seemed to have an issue with rich pensioners claiming the funds...

Home secretary will be 'looking at' whether the EDL should be proscribed as terror group, Angela Rayner suggests

The home secretary, Yvette Cooper, will “be looking at” whether the English Defence League (EDL) should be proscribed under terrorism laws following the riot in Southport, Angela Rayner has suggested, according to the PA news agency.

Rayner, the deputy prime minister, was quoted as having said:

We have laws and we have proscribed groups and we do look at that and it is reviewed regularly. So I’m sure that that will be something that the home secretary will be looking at as part of the normal course of what we do and the intelligence that we have. But I think the bigger issue is about taking on the minority of people that have got thuggish behaviour, that actually that’s not our British values…The inciting of violence and violence on the street has absolutely no place in our democracy, and we have to crack down on those that perpetuate violence and spread it within our communities.

WTF is there to be thinking about?

Just proscribe them.

The problem here for Starmer's Gang is that they're busy letting criminals out into the community because they want to cut back on spending at the Ministry of Justice. The likes of the EDL scum know they wont want to deal with hundreds or even thousands of them and finding cells for them, so they're running amok.

100,000 of the vermin in central London last Saturday; now hundreds tip up in Southport to cause mayhem.

I make these points not because I require an amount of money that would barely cover a round of drinks or a meal, but because there are people out there who actually need it and for whom at the coldest points may become life threatening. I have always believed that people should stand on their own two feet, if they can, and I have never changed my views regarding support for the disadvantaged and would give them whatever is needed. Doctors, who will retire on generous pensions btw, have been offered a 22% pay rise, but even now are demanding 35% while some pensioners will effectively lose 3% of their very small income to pay for it. It’s disgusting and anyone defending it should be ashamed of themselves….
