Anyone expecting Starmer in office to tackle Establisment cover ups or to reform the capitalist press are utterly deluded.

He is there to PROTECT that malfeasance.

It's what he's done all his career since becoming a lawyer: defending soldiers in N.I. who shot dead innocent civilians, got in bed with the Police Service of Northern Ireland, made sure that incidents like the Charles De Menezes police assassination and Ian Tomlinson manslaughter saw no prosecutions when DPP, made sure the spy cops scandal went unpunished, set up an international branch of the CPS with US connivance to make sure the Department of Justice's extraditions of Britons could smoothly take place, turned the CPS into a diplomatic arm of HM Government to 'advise' despots round the world how to get round and counter critic's charges of their human rights abuses.

It is utterly laughable to believe a creature of that nature can be a force for good. Anyone believing in it needs to get their head out of their arse right now.

@Wizard and more especially @Xizor re the McKinnon case...

McKinnon's story (and more specifically his mother's anecdotal evidence) should be seen in the context of the other cases of a similar nature where Starmer had been all too willing to hand over UK nationals like Christopher Tappin and Talha Assan to the US. Taken together these cases underline the willingness of Starmer's CPS to work with the US Department of Justice and their 'War on Terror'.

And? Is there some reason you think the CPS should just be ignoring US Extradition requests? I'm not remotely suggesting that the US Justice system is some paragon of judicial excellence (or even competence in recent years) but I would at the very least expect our legal officials to deal with their legal officials in a professional manner when one side approaches the other over what they consider to be a serious criminal prosecution. I'm not saying one way or the other whether I agree with their position on these specific cases - each would need more than a cursory look on the relevant defendant-quote-filled wikipedia pages to understand the nuances of the legal decisions involved - but I'm honestly at a loss as to what the criticism of Starmer as a person is supposed to be here. "All too willing" is just an unsupported characterisation you're making based on your own views of the man without any of the facts at hand.

And all of this material is coming from a hitpiece of a book from a hostile author that hinges on biased quotes and an unnamed CPS source. The speed at which people are unthinkingly sharing around their socials doesn't make it any more factual, or more importantly, relevant.

At this point I can only picture you as some sort of pitiable Gollum-like figure, shuffling around the internet muttering "Starmer! We hates him!".

Weren't you championing theresa may (home sec) a few posts back for getting involved to prevent an extradition? Which angle of attack do you intend to stick to?

Oh!

Last time I checked Tory have been power 14 years and have had ample time to deal with these scandals? Do you apportion any blame onto these leaders or party?

But what about Rishi Sunaks weight ?

For someone 'not remotely suggesting' this or that, you do seem to more than remotely suggest a defence of Starmer, the CPS and the US Justice System.

'Hit piece' book.

Ha Ha Ha.

Yeah, let's denunciate a book - not alone in critiquing and criticising Starmer by the way, there are others - because it uses sources and backs up its claims of Starmer's opportunistic and clearly observable drift to the very right wing of politics.

What is right wing about this story?

Oh!

I saw as well that Dave's beloved Theresa May, who swooped to McKinnon's rescue, didn't think to do the same for the other cases that were mentioned. Maybe these things need to actually be looked at carefully and decided on, rather than just have amateur commenters assume blanket responses to all are appropriate.

I did see though one other person that went out to bat for this Tappin guy who was caught selling parts for arms to Iran, the way Dave is doing now (going out to bat, not selling parts for arms) - Nigel Farage. What an amazing illiberal axis this is turning out to be. Galloway, Farage, Dave. Struggling to fit a cigarette paper between some of their positions.
