Armed forces mate. Like I said, the RN are in the Gulf as we speak, there is always a nuclear sub "somewhere", and there will be RAF at NATO bases.

Trident alone and its upkeep is argument enough to get shut of those subs.

As far as I'm aware they cant even launch without Washington's say so.

Quite simply post colonial vanity. Same as the French.

On the armed forces all told: we're a small European nation and we should have defence forces commensurate with that.

A Labour leader asking the country to keep on the road of austerity while spending 2.3% of GDP on defence is merely mimicking the opposition party for electoral purposes.
