As soon as the younger generation inherit their parents wealth they will vote Tory, as night follows day

There is usually a Left to Right pipeline that operates as a generations ages and comes into more assets, true. I also usually point that out when people get excited about the current youth aging and becoming a bigger part of the electorate. A lot of the people who were young in the 80s and early 90s and suffered under Thatcher etc are now moaning on Facebook that the Tories aren't keeping their Rwanda promises (and also that their children never want to spend time with them).

Worth bearing in mind though that with ever more households in private rented accomodation, employment a lot more precarious & costs of living spiralling, fewer of the younger generations today will inherit anything worth shouting about and so there might be less movement Rightwards as they age.

I found myself getting emotional when Starmer made his speech at the Party Conference. Then he goes and praises Thatcher, and I find myself wanting to vote Lib Dem.

Obviously did not read the article then. Been a few to be fair.
Suppose the question is, why are some posters repeating this Tory media narrative?

I’ve read it.

Sounds like he praises her to me.

Around the time thatcher was in power Starmer was in Leeds working on a socialist magazine.

Mad how people can change over time.
When we live in a world of short sound bites, Starmer knows exactly what he’s doing by referencing Thatcher. There was an article earlier showing how that would likely yield him votes as well.
Hardly some Tory media narrative ffs . lol

If you mean the article where he praised Thatcher I did read it and the context. There are no redeeming features to Thatcher. The country had a golden opportunity to modernise. We could have reduced our reliance on coal whilst developing green energy. We could have sold off Council Houses and used the proceeds to build new ones. We could have used our North Sea oil and gas to fund state pensions like Norway. Instead of which she divided us and turned us into a f*** you society which has culminated in the complete debt ridden mess we are now. So sorry if I don't agree with you.

Y'know, my mother in law thinks Thatcher was fantastic. I must admit my jaw dropped when she told me. But then she explained that having grown up under a terrible Communist regime the allure and opportunities of free market democratic capitalism were huge.

Anyway, Starmer ain't Romanian, he certainly didnt suffer Nicolae Ceaușescu and he's borderline trolling the membership with this.

Electioneering. It's a dirty business.

In defence of the free market capitalism of Reagan, Thatcher and Gorbachev, I don't think they realised that what they started would turn into the uber-capitalism we now have. That said, for the reasons I outlined above Thatcher gets less if a pass, because she shafted the miners, dockers and steel workers just because she wanted to break the working class and divide the population, setting the working class against each other.

Quite. The mother in-law is less aware of the rot the bad side of Thatcherism left.

Context, innit. More an amusing aside than a point about anything really.

trickle down will never deliver anything to the working class and the ruling class and the establishment know this big time , if you cannot realise that divide and conquer has been used for over a 150 years and their brainwashing of the population then you will meet an even quicker end than you and your families will meet the end much quicker than you realise
