Starmer's 'Labour' Party:

  • backs genocide in Gaza
  • supports big business
  • admires Thatcherism
  • hands out interviews to the S*n, writes columns for it, and begs it for endorsements
  • believes illegal immigrants should be detained in concentration camps in France
  • will carry on with austerity
  • refuses to tax the rich
  • now refuses to back an end to the two-child benefit limit which hits low income families
  • won't end student debt
  • ditched “support for common ownership of failing services like rail, mail, energy and water"
  • will allow the further outsourcing of NHS services to the private sector
  • punishes its MPs for standing on picket lines supporting trade unions...the unions that formed the party in the first place
  • will not discipline party officers found guilty of racism in the Forde Report

Let's face it, it's hardly worth voting the Tories out really is it?

There is no way I'll have that on my conscience - voting for scum who've put together that policy platform.

This new left wing party that you’re dreaming of, will be made up of dreary middle class P/P/E students, university lecturer types and upper middle class coffee shop socialists. Who drive 4x4, kids go to public school and live in Georgian townhouses in areas that used to be edgy.

It will have less political clout than the Green Party.

The old left is dead, get over it. All the whinging in the world isn‘t bringing it back.

Have you thought of moving to Russia or China, you’d be a lot happier over there ?
Besides, the UK - well, England in particular - is demonstrably right-wing in its political tastes. The left-wing party some might like would be tremendously pious and utterly unelectable.

There is a delusion that England has somehow avoided the worst excesses of right-wing populism. Just this week, some fella in the Financial Times was arguing that the UK had escaped the dangers of Le Pen, Meloni, the AfD, Orban, and Wilders. I mean, has he lived under a rock since 2016 and has he taken a glance at 10 Downing Street in that time? The French and the Germans worry about right-wing populists. The English elect them.

Got to sell his timeshare in NK first

You should not take a single thing that @davek posts seriously. His MO is that of a contrarian troll.

This is going to be a messy battle as the tories will say and do anything to win. If Labour don't fight tooth and nail Sunak and co will continue to dismantle our lives and country.

As I say, I believe that Starmer understands the types of things needed to win and if he does (please lord) I'll judge him on what he delivers.

Not impressed by him at all and seems to be getting the big calls wrong, it just that the other lot are so bad that I will have to hold my nose and vote for him.

Or I might not bother and vote for an independent

bloody saville innit! and he's let the energy companies and water companies profiteer. and he introduced ending the cap on bankers bonuses. and I heard he was stalking care homes strangling geriatrics that had recovered from covid. seriously bad news him.
Indeed.

I hear that he could have stopped the Ukraine invasion but chose not to, the swine.

What big calls are they?

Ceasefire call being the first one that pops into mind

Won’t pressure Israel’s government on settlers and a 2 state solution his just parroting a line he won’t push.

Non commitment to addressing nurses and doctors s pay

Ending the caps on bankers bonuses

Has even refused to drop the Rawanda migrants plan ???

He’s taking the ‘anyone but Tory’ votes for granted and is now trying to appeal to voters who have been happily voting for right wing loonies for the past decade.
Starmer is making it increasingly difficult for many people on the left to hold their nose and vote for him.
I agree with you. If I’m allowed to vote next year I don’t think I’ll be voting for his Labour Party.

Yes indeed. Recall Radio 4 interviewing folk in the North East, old Labour voters, who bemoaned Corbyn for not being for folk like them. Saw him as for students, middle class identity politics types, anti-capitalists/communists, and people who just want a hand out.

The latter was contrasted against the old community labour approach of helping folk to be able to stand on their own two feet in times of need.

Which is a pretty damning view of Corbynism when he's been the most unashamedly 'old left' leader in a long time who, in theory, should appeal to old labour working communities.

Every single person I know who liked Corbyn was a middle class unionised professional. Some of them weirdly certain he'd win power, probably because they are in a bubble and weren't talking to folk outside their own milieu. They looked at me like I was nuts when I expressed my view Boris was appealing to a lot of people.
