I have to agree with @davek when it comes to Starmer.

I sadly voted for him to become leader as his ten pledges I could get behind. All of them in the bin shortly after.

Can't believe I'm still paying to be a member of the party, might have to cancel that this week.

Think I voted for RLB in the end but was between her or Starmer at the time. Can't deny that he's doing the right things in terms of getting the majority of people on side and very likely that he'll win comfortably at the next GE.

My larger concern is that I just don't think he'll be put under any real pressure to do anything other than maintain the status quo. The people who struggle and continue to be on the fringes of society won't change and the world will keep spinning regardless. Suppose in a way I've never really got over what happened in 2019 when I felt we did have the opportunity for genuine change.

….with the country in such a mess, significant change will have to be managed rather than immediate. Public services are chronic, the NHS et al needs urgent address.

i actually think longer-term objectives will be announced when in power. Things like nationalising British Rail and utility services will actually resonate with even moderate voters. They would have to be delivered in a 2nd term. That’s the course Labour needs to tread.

They already do!!!

They wont see the light of day under any Starmer government.

Honestly, you and others who hold out any hope of a progressive politics mending this broken country are well and truly whistling in the wind.

The public needs constant reminders that the country is on its arse. Any party which follows on from these arseholes is going to have a hell of a job.

On the surface though, it would just be a refreshing change from hate politics and corruption which has been more rife than ever since around Brexit campaigning times.

Well I among others see the only realistic option as a better option than the lying, thieving and hate filled cronies we currently have in place.

It may not be perfect, but it’s got to be better than what we have now.

If you can’t see that then you’ve just gone into full blown blinkered.

I really, really hope this is the case mate. I think it's difficult to not have even a moderate amount of cynicism with everything that has happened over the past decade.

In terms of significant change being "managed rather than immediate" this is my concern. There are some things that can't afford to not be tackled immediately ie. homelessness, mental health services for those with low income, rail services outside of London.

We all know that in two years time - one year into a Starmer Government - there'll be a thread on here with people demanding his and 'Labour's' removal from office.

Sure as night follows day this ends in calamity because what some people believe is possible from Starmer's time in office is never going to happen.

People KNOW this will happen.

Dave the Country is on its knees, open your eyes we are in National debt up to to our eyeballs after 13 years of lies, incompetence and greed. It will take time for reform and change and I hope Starmer delivers that change, when able because we know who hasn't and who won't.

I echo you're worries, but where is the money to do this overnight coming from ? Add to that energy companies being made to pay a windfall tax to help the lower paid, standing charges abolished. NHS and education, but it will take time, thanks to the Tories 13 years of grift.
