Regarding property, this is probably half the problem - https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...n-london-property-prices-billionaire-bargains

So a good chunk of new builds are going straight to large buy-to-let chains. Seems an easy thing to regulate should they so wish. Not really sure why Khan isn't doing something on this as he'd surely have plenty of support from Londoners.
I'm surprised it's news to you mate. Like it says, they are being dumped now as they're far less attractive than they once were apparently and there's a real prospect of the bubble bursting.

Same thing happens with the % of properties that have to be "affordable housing" get hoovered up by housing associations. The whole thing is a disaster waiting to happen.

Cant come soon enough to me.

I kinda had an inkling the figures were around that level, but also had an inkling that such hoovering was going to be stopped.

Builders wont need to build houses soon. Once the boomers fall off their collective coil, the plethora of retirement complexes/villages/communities that have sprung up over the last 15 years or so will be available to the millenials, (and their kids).

One day I WILL be proved right about this property malarky.

It's been stopped by 'market forces' iirc, strength of Stirling, confidence, saturation. I think something like 65pc of London new builds are unspoken for, should never have been like this really, imo, it's so easy for foreign nationals/corporations to buy real estate and land in the UK compared to other countries.

Haha, yea but they have completely different design spec's, no? May supply some sheltered accommodation like, for as long as they last.

Tom Watson.....

“Labour’s deputy leader, Tom Watson, says that the party will “disappear into a vortex of eternal shame and embarrassment” and render itself unfit for government, unless it calls an immediate halt to damaging arguments over antisemitism.

Speaking to the Observer, Watson called on Jeremy Corbyn to drop without delay internal inquiries into two Labour MPs – Margaret Hodge and Ian Austin – who both lost family members in the Holocaust and now face possible disciplinary charges after furious outbursts over the party’s stance on antisemitism.

Watson also said Corbyn should immediately adopt the full International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism, along with all its examples – a move the party continues to resist – in order to prevent the row engulfing the party throughout the entire summer period.

“This is one of those moments when we have to take a long, hard look at ourselves, stand up for what is right and present the party as fit to lead the nation – or disappear into a vortex of eternal shame and embarrassment,” Watson said.

“I think it is very important that we all work to de-escalate this disagreement, and I think it starts with dropping the investigations into Margaret Hodge and Ian Austin.

“I have frequently had very difficult conversations with both Margaret and Ian but what I understand is that your critics are not your enemies. On an issue that is so dear to them, I think people are very, very concerned that these investigations should be dropped quickly.”

Getting really messy now.....

Yes Pete, it's perfectly reasonable to call your boss a racist and an antisemite without substantiation and not expect a disciplinary.

This would be a mystery only if you don't know what Lambeth and (especially) Southwark Labour have been like re: developers.

I know he is an anti-semite now, and therefore persona non grata, but honestly Livingstone had the right idea about how to deal with increased yet competing demands for development and social housing. He got them to build thousands of genuinely affordable units and it cost him nothing.

The debate labour are having with anti-Semitism is great, its really fleshing out the term. Also you can't really read on subject without being educated on the Ultra Nationalistic government that Israel is represented by, which effectively enforcing it's own brand Apartheid.

Some do, yeah. But swap wheelchair/mobility scooter access for push chair/pram access and they are essentially family friendly.

It’s a bit much to call it a debate; it just seems to be the usual people in the PLP shouting at the leader because they literally can’t think of anything else to do other than trash the place. It is the politics of toddlers, though of course people like toddlers and generally the under threes aren’t paid thousands for speaking engagements, nor do they cane their expenses.

I'm for politics to be aired publicly even the dirty laundry, give a sense of knowing and owning. I can only speak anecdotally, however, I knew the current Israel government was on the right of the political spectrum, however, not to the point they are reinventing Apartheid. And if Labour have to split to expose that very dark transition, then that's a very good reason to split. Things are tough here for some but compare that to your average Palestinian it pales into insignificance.

I don't really know what the likes of Watson thinks will happen.

Even if Corbyn goes, there's still 400,000 people within the party who believe in his brand of politics.

Hang on he made only this week a half hearted apology for being at a disgusting meeting......
look labour should be 20 -25 points ahead in the polls they are not look at the leader , and there's your answer the tories in melt down May will be gone in October IMO - I am a socialist , but I cannot vote for a party within a party ie Momentum....who may swell the membership , but I feel they will not put votes in the ballot box for a Labour government !
Then again who knows the tories are all over the place over Brexit.......
