Due to thickos blaming them for the financial crash
Reminds me a bit of that graph about waiting times that's going around. I mean there's a pretty obvious reason why it sky rocketed from 2020 onwards, but the hockey stick makes nicer reading. In a land of tribalism, any stick is good enough to beat the opponent with, regardless of the reality.

This? cos 10-20 isn't pretty...
No, of course it's not, but equally the NHS was struggling on in 2019. The mess we're in right now, where it's struggling to do basic things, is down to what happened in 2020-2022. None of the people handwringing at the moment were banging this drum in 2019. It's the current stick and then they'll move on to something else. I mean how many of the commentariat are talking about Afghan refugees any more? It sadly creates an impression that they care less about the issue at hand than they do about using that issue to beat their political opponent. They are to the left what Hartley-Brewer and those ghouls are to the right.

There's more a human aspect here, there are those still talking the abandoned Afghans and the trickle effect to people trafficking and the small boats issue re safe and legal channels, that hasn't gone away, its the platform that has altered focus, unfortunately bad news sells and those selling set the agenda, the consistent attacks over an ever varying range of specifics doesn't alter their respective significance, it's one thing at a time though because no one person can carry every drop of information and formulate a reasoned response. This is where it gets murky, one side says, 'don't screw it up in the first place, if you make an error hold your hands up, say sorry and put it right, it's about credibility and responsibility', that demented harpy (brewer) and the mckenzies and morgans of the world cough up much simpler answers like 'if you don't like it pish off to some other country', that has traction because it's easy, because it passes the responsibility on and costs nothing, it boils down to effort, pedaling easy answers will always find an audience whereas being bothered enough to investigate beyond the headline or deeper takes time, and the public are hard pressed, for time, for money, for effort, for care and for love.
Eventually a permanent cynicism is the norm and a general acceptance of falling standards and failing institutions is acceptable because turning around say the problems in social care, the faltering judicial system, front line health care, housing, education, are lifetimes of work with no quick fix.
truss was accidentally right, regarding 'workers needing more graft' those workers first up are the likes of her and her lackeys, leading by example. Sadly the human aspect kicks in and its easier to volunteer someone else than oneself.
So yet another knobhead gets the chop and the system resets/repeats to failure, but we 'have to give the new face a chance'.

TLDR? stay young, stay fit and healthy, earn what you can as quick as you can because the knackers yard is always waiting. You're easier turned into glue that looking after in light of your efforts.

The report is to kind, it isn't neglect in my opinion, it has been a targeted asset stripping and hideous manipulation of working terms and conditions to strangle the last breaths out of a system they despise because it is a hindrance to their paymasters plans to squeeze more profit out of an already cut to the bone populous.
tories are more Boston strangler than well meaning enthusiastic Heimlich practitioners.

I didn't say the Tories hadn't made considerable mistakes with the NHS. I said that it was bumbling along in 2019. The situation now where it's not coping whatsoever is very different to how it was in 2019 and is a direct consequence of the pandemic and flu season. I mean if you want to point out all the handwringing about the state of the NHS in 2019 then I'd be all ears. Equally I'd be very open to seeing that handwringing done on a detailed rather than a superficial level. I doubt I'd find it though.
