….I’ve mentioned my MP, Ian Byrne, on here before. He’s the one who posted misogynistic comments about Everton fans wives & girlfriends locking themselves up after a defeat. I have held real doubts about his suitability for high public office.

No idea what is going on now but have seen this;

He's too far to the left for the current labour set up, they are trying to get rid of any left wing ideology to become a centrist party. By all accounts most have said he's an excellent MP who does a great job in the local community.

That would make it at least 3 sitting Labour MPs who are facing deselection then (Tarry, Begum and now Byrne), but of course all the factional purges, abuse and whatnot of MPs happened during Corbyn's time.

…ah, ok. It sounded to me like the local members were not happy with him & I wondered if it was because of specific incidents.

Personally, I have doubts about his credibility and decency for such prestige office.

He has done great things with the food bank. He also brings a lot of attention to the struggles of the working class. There are numerous worse MPS. Obviously he made daft comments years ago about blues but I doubt he meant it.

Long held belief of Corbyn that democracy is grass roots and is continuous process, goes way back when he was Benn political prodigy, in essence candidate/MPs should be answerable accountable to local party they represent its bread and butter politics.
Those who supposedly support Corbyn are really in the realms of do as we say not what we do, something very latent and of the political right.

I understand 10 out of 10 local branches voted against Tarry, meaning they want him to fight for his seat in an open selection process. Some Trade Unions also voted against him. Apparently Tarry has never been popular in his constituency since he was foisted on the local party at the expense of their chosen candidate. Jas Athwal.

Some of what went on can be read about here:

Regarding Apsana Begum, I know she won her court case and has been off sick but I have no idea why she faces a re-selection battle. Perhaps someone who follows these things could enlighten us.

Wasn't she actually suspended by the party a few years ago due to antisemitism claims?

Indeed not a Labour Member. Issues with harassment and previous troubles getting kicked out of the party Pro Labour Witchhunt see the Forde Report page 6 She has Not a left leg to stand on, orchestrated to boot just awful bit of propaganda
