And I mean Starmer, to his credit, has said if he is fined he will resign.

Johnson has been fined multiple times.

I dont know how Starmer can come off badly in this. I don't even like Starmer, but hes obviously not in the wrong here.

I just dont get the way that some on here will ignore law breaking, lying to the Queen, breaking international agreements, having ethics advisors resign, and lying to Parliament. But will deflect/justify cos Starmer had one beer. At work.

I voted Conservative at the last election, cos it was 100% brexit stuff, and I was fed up of the impasse in the HOC. But jeez, never ever again.

If people had a credible alternative to the Conservative Party then they would take it but we have Kier Strammer. He is just Conservative light, but without a personality. Labour need to bin him and put Andy Burnham in his place. The country needs to rid itself of Boris and his cohorts, we need a person in charge of the Labour Party with some vision, we also need a joined up strategy with the Lib Dems, things are so bad now that it is a case of "my enemies enemy is my friend". Hopefully the two upcoming by-elections can further weaken Boris and his cronies, the loss of two seats will hopefully force the Tory MPs to return to type and they vote to save their own skins.

I read that the Shadow Cabinet don’t rate him and called him a ‘plank of wood’….

….i wouldn’t believe what the political press in the country write, but Starmer is a decent man with a record of delivering in public service. Sadly, we live in times when Personality and image matters & that’s where he’s lacking.

i always thought his job was to get Labour back on course & I think he’s done that. They need to find somebody who ticks the boxes with the electorate.

I think conservatives probably misunderstand the level of the electorate who are probably where you are.

Wary of Corbyn, wanting a breakthrough with, and crucially to move on from Brexit, and probably want some pragmatic, sensible leadership.

What we are being given, is a group of people who seem to see themselves as above the rules, and where resolution is found re Brexit, want to re open the discussion to try and score some abstract points.

Pointless even having discussion with you at all. He's offered his resignation that's called having morals, ethics and standards, Johnson hasn't got any of them, never had never will. Another pathetic, childish reply, you have nothing else, keep on supporting your Pig.

I think you miss my point. Everyone knows that Boris has questionable morals, ethics and standards. This was known before the last election. Starmer however chose to die on this particular altar and has unfortunately been shown up for having a hypocritical, pious and dishonest attitude when it comes to double standards. Having hid the truth about Rayner even being in attendance and now having taken 18 days to provide the Police with his story, which I’m sure will line up word for word with everyone else in the room, there are still more questions than answers. He’s also stitched up Rayner with his resignation ploy, which must have sounded really good in his head when he thought it up.

Your man supported Corbyn, who was far more honest than Starmer, who has a different answer for Brexit depending upon which way he thinks the wind is blowing, and as the Shadow cabinet have observed has the charisma and communication skills of a plank.

With everything going against Boris and the conservatives he still cannot lay a glove on Boris, nor turn this into poll numbers. He is, as I’ve said from the very beginning, a waste of space and the sooner Nandy takes over the better for an effective opposition…..

Do you not think hes just belatedly reacting to the understandable anger from the public about the PM breaking the law, while decent people like me followed it?

Its really not like hes gone heavily on it either.

I have asked you this before but I'll try again, why is it right that I couldn't attend a funeral, but he could party with his mates?

I too couldn’t attend several funerals, but Boris was not ‘partying’ with his mates, if you even look at the video of him at his ‘birthday party’ you see an ad hoc event, early in the working day, with suitable distancing, prior to a meeting…I personally think this whole Partygate and Beergate is a waste of time and has deflected too much government attention from real issues……

Boris was fined once. Starmer, being the naive fool that he is, thought it would be a clever political wheeze to offer to resign, then when Rayner was finally admitted to being in attendance she had to do similar, which I guarantee she would not have done otherwise. There is no ‘good’ ending for Starmer, the left want him out and this is a great opportunity for them ‘hoist on his own petard’. Even if not fined, the Tories won’t now let it go and he will be smeared. Everyone expects Boris to have a drink, but Mr Pious will be tarnished irrevocably……

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Tories won both seats again…..

To take each point Pete.

People did know about Johnson, but they had assumed he had grown up, as he said he would in this role. They voted for a deal, which while not perfect was "oven ready" and a compromise that allowed us all to move on. They now seem to want to re open this chapter. Cant they see, we are all sick of it?

As for Starmer, he has done the right thing. It's what people in leadership do. They take accountability for their actions. I don't like the guy, but he cant be knocked for that.

As for Johnson beating him in PMQs I mean that is subjective. I think they are both poor. Starmer is like a lawyer, and Johnson comes across as Henleys 2nd best Winston Churchill tribute act. However, objectively at least, the polling is very much in Starmers favour. His net favourability ratings are much higher (or less low) and his party are way ahead in the polls.

A recent poll of 88 Tory seats showed Labour winning 85 of them. Johnson could be losing a seat he would have to retain to win an election, and a 2nd which is his 60th safest. It's a snapshot, and it could change, but after the local elections, it's hard to say anything other than Johnson looks set for an electoral annihilation as things stand, and the polls are very bad for him.

Well polling and electoral performance seems to suggest otherwise Pete.

Subjectively I really hope the Tories keep banging on about it. It is an area of electoral weakness for them. Its keeping it in the news cycle.

They need to sort growth out, get inflation down, and get the economy working after 12 years of stagnation.

Well what was it then? Why was he gathering, with drinks involved with other people, while putting in laws that meant people couldn't go to funerals for loved ones?

Can you see how insensitive it is to describe this as a "waste of time" to raise such a point, or make out it's not "a real issue"?

They were partying in number 10, wine up the walls, puddles of puke everywhere etc. How is that in any way acceptable while telling people they werent allowed to funerals? Or you flippantly trying to minimise it. Its insulting that. I'm sure you dont mean to be, but that's how it sounds.
