Ugh, this is such a horrible approach to policing.


This is kind of the bind Labour have struggled to grasp since the Brexit referendum, as many of the traditional, "red wall", voters who switched to the Tories are pretty socially conservative. Labour hasn't really been able to reconcile that with their new base in the cities, which are generally more socially liberal.

This was always a problem under Corbyn, more over military matters than policing (where he was of course done over completely by Kuenssberg). The coalition, the May government and now this shower have caused a lot of damage to the armed forces of the UK and they should have been called out on it.
 
That will come. You can't play your hand 2 years out from an election. Gives the Tories time to rip it apart or steal the best bits.

My thought a while back was that Starmer is playing the long game. I haven't seen anything to change my mind.
He's keeping his cards very close to his chest so far then. Probably waiting to see who Johnson's inevitable replacement will be first.
Come whenever, Labour will take a big bite out of the Tory 80+ majority - but will choke on the last dozen or 10 seats.
