When we signed him, he instantly became the clubs top earner. Allegedly we only finished the top up on his fee to Atletico this summer. Anyway. How could he have demanded so much and have Moyes and the board agree to it?

Because "We are building something here", "We are on the cusp of a wave", "The good times are just round the corner".

Well, good times for players means a step up in fortunes via European top flight footy - CL.
Or, the new TV deal is just around the corner, and if the money goes up again, players towards the end of their contract that sign before Murdoch signs off on the increase can feel short changed. (If there is any such feeling for people paid more in a week than most get in a year).
Arteta dug his heels in and eventually got his wish. Heitinga was on great money from the off. Pienaar wants what is 'right'.
Do we, can we cave and hand out great contracts?

5 ; We HAVE given it out to our current squad - hence we're skint today . I'm with the club on THAT one too .

Do you mean he didn't want to come here, or he regrets coming here?

He just didn't fancy it straight off . We had to INDUCE , is , I believe the current terminology . He left a better side than us . Yet he plays for Everton .

Moyes is inept in Europe, let's be honest. Against... shall we say Latin, opposition anyway.

Remember when we easily beat Zenit, and then they won the UEFA cup? I mean, Fulham got to the final of last year's one ffs.

But my point was, their domestic history is similar to ours and before the Europa league the only European trophy they'd won, was of course, the cup winner's cup.

Speaking in the present tense, I think we've got a better team on the whole too. Except that they have 1 world class striker, and 1 who's pretty close. What I'd give for either of those players!

Anyway, they're better than us now, I'm just being a pedant.

And thinking about it, I think he really does like it here. Because he looked genuinely distraught when he pissed that pen. I think, speaking speculatively of course, that he does love the club.

Not that I disagree about Moyes in Europe but its worth mentioning that Fulham are built for two legged games, because they can play ten men behind the ball in the away leg and then smash people at the Cottage. The only reason they haven't been up there with us in the last couple of years is that they can't win away from home so I don't think it's particuarly humilating that they did better than us last year. It's a competition that suits them better than the league does.

We never beat Zenit easy. They had a man sent off harshly after 20 mins, mikel then missed the resulting pen.
For long periods they outclassed us Arshavin was brilliant that night we were lucky to get the late goal .
