They had the best defensive record in the qualifying stages, Heitinga is a perfectly capable defender, that much is obvious.

Fair enough if you prefer him as a centre mid, he's good there aswell.

The group wasnt very strong though mate and like i say their system offered great protection to the back four.

Thats a good description a capable defender. He can and will be better IMO, i still think he needs to improve his game there, granted though i didnt see the game tonight.

Nope, the Dutch defence werent great throughout the whole tournament, they were amply pretected by De Jong and Van Bommel but still made a lot of mistakes.

To be honest i wasnt very impressed with the Ducth game plan and over all play.

Erm, it's a team game, he's not out there on his own for us either.

He'd be amply protected by Rodwell & Fellaini too.

Heitinga has played effectively at right back for the Dutch.

I remember him playing there for us and he didn't do too well. I think it might of been in his first few games for us so he probably wasn't up to speed. With Distin stringing a few good games and Fellaini getting back to match sharpness, we could do worse than stick Heitinga at RB.

Wuthering Heits

When we signed him, he instantly became the clubs top earner. Allegedly we only finished the top up on his fee to Atletico this summer. Anyway. How could he have demanded so much and have Moyes and the board agree to it?

Because "We are building something here", "We are on the cusp of a wave", "The good times are just round the corner".

Well, good times for players means a step up in fortunes via European top flight footy - CL.
Or, the new TV deal is just around the corner, and if the money goes up again, players towards the end of their contract that sign before Murdoch signs off on the increase can feel short changed. (If there is any such feeling for people paid more in a week than most get in a year).
Arteta dug his heels in and eventually got his wish. Heitinga was on great money from the off. Pienaar wants what is 'right'.
Do we, can we cave and hand out great contracts?

firstly, i like the post title. witty, creative. 4 and a half moyes' out of 5.

secondly, it all depends. if he is asking for the world, then you get as much for him as you can. but if he is asking for a modest raise, the lad has earned it, dont ya think? we're short on cash, yah, and if it doesnt work out a bunch of teams would gladly snatch him up. but we should at least give it a shot
