The Joel Robles Fanboy Thread.

Yes Joel has been improving week by week, but to suggest that Howard has only had one good season is foolish. He has been one of the most consistent keepers in the league for around 8 years now. All goalkeepers make mistakes, Howard more so this year than usual, but he is a proven quality keeper. I hope that Joel continues to progress to increase the competition when Tim comes back into the squad, but Joel definitely deserves to keep the number 1 shirt when he returns.
Consistently crap

Having posted my quite fearful hatred of Tim Howard in Everton's net, if he does come back in I hope he performs like a boss

And this is in no way back up to show I supported him really.

if martinez drops joel, for howard it just confirms to me that he's scared of names / personalities and has little backbone.
It is one thing to reinstate a player immediately back into the squad if they were playing well prior to the injury - Mirallas coming straight back in after his hamstring injury for instance or if McCarthy pushes out one of Barry/Besic.

Quite another when the player covering has been putting in better performances, like Robles has done.

Regardless if he brings in Howard or not, it's an utterly pathetic and ridiculous thing to say "it's Howard to lose". Yeah about 10 games before he only got dropped because of injury.

Not exactly a confidence boost to Joel and will only have Howard thinking it doesn't matter if I player well or not as my position is safe. As @AaronTheBlue says, if he drops Robles it shows Martinez has no backbone and that is not acceptable as manager of Everton Football Club.

3 clean sheets in a row is something I would have no faith in Howard getting.

In fact, had Howard been playing Saturday we'd have been one down after 15 minutes - that gerrard free kick would have gone in

I like Howard, but the way both him and Joel have played this season leaves no doubt, it must be Joel until Howard proves himself in training enough to surpass Joel, who has been very good aside from the Krasnodar game.

I think this is all a bit heavy handed again, people saying they'll 'lose faith' in Martinez if he brings his no1 goalkeeper back into the side once fit.

He won't be rushed in, there's no hurry of that I don't think. Robles is still a young goalkeeper and a good two or three games more until being taken back out of the firing line won't do his development any harm at all. What's more is that he'll be itching to take the spot back, and given Howard's age, hopefully it's only a matter of time before Joel is a good no1 goalkeeper for us.
