"...we are willing to close our doors on our biggest trading partner..."

Hmmm. Are we REALLY going to shut out, for example, importers like BMW, Mercedes, Citroen, Renault, etc. totally, post-Brexit? And a whole host of other EU companies that will want the UK to take their goods? And we will close the door on moving ANYTHING of ours to the EU?

I'm not going to say any more...

For what, undermining the U.K. negotiating position. You do realise that while their votes will be overturned by the Commons, they have emboldened the EU negotiators to take a far tougher stance against the U.K. and to the detriment of our people. But hey, well done.......

No, it’s all good in my eyes, Pete.

Someone has to make a stand to stop this Brexit madness and if it takes the Lords to keep the rabid Tory Little Englanders honest then be it so.

And silly emotive language like “to the detriment of our people” cuts no ice with ol’ Khal as I feel Davies and his gang of headless chickens are a far greater danger to my future prosperity and that of my children ergo their actions are more “to the detriment of our people” than the Peers in the HOL or the estimable Monsieur Barnier.

One day you will thank them.

And I would bet dollars to doughnuts your gal Theresa is secretly and metaphorically fist bumping the Lords right now.

;)

I think we need to see a declaration of interests from members of the HoL when it comes to Brexit. There are far too many in receipt of EU payments, subsidies for land, pensions, etc, for them to want to change the status quo.....

That sounds fair but it'll never happen. The establishment looks after its own.

I voted Remain and I normally love your posts, but I think it's unfair to suggest that Brexit is only supported by "Little Englanders". The Welsh voted for Brexit, as did sizeable numbers of ethnic minority voters across the UK.

Well George, the term I used was “TORY Little Englanders” and I was referring specifically to the Tory “negotiators” whom are currently making a complete dog’s dinner of their remit and whom are being held to account by the House of Lords, much to @peteblue ’s chagrin.

:)

Why do people keep saying we will ‘close our doors’ on our biggest trading partner. We will not stop trading with the EU, and nor will they stop trading with their biggest trading partner, the U.K.....

Just as we're not stopped from 'trading with the world' at the moment? It's not about, and has never been about, complete barriers to engagement, which is why I said Old Blue's 5 questions from a while back were so silly. It's about making engagement as easy as possible.

As in the rest of the UK however, the most international part of Wales - Cardiff, voted to remain. It was the provinces of Wales, as it was the Provinces of England, that voted to leave.

Except tariffs. That we don’t pay now. Don’t mention those. Be a happy little Brexiter and pretend they won’t exist.

That’s correct. It’s about making engagement as easy as possible. We can already see just how difficult the EU is behaving with a longstanding member who will become its largest market, and the trade barriers it has erected with everyone else, the U.K. does not need those barriers and will do very well trading without barrier restrictions......

They are not being ‘held to account’, they have been tied up and gagged for the most important negotiations we’ve ever faced. If you cannot or will not see how this is against the national interest then you never will.......

 cmon Pete. Davis said we'd have all sorts of trade deals signed, sealed and delivered by now. Have we even begun a single one yet? In the time we've been negotiating our exit from the biggest trade bloc on Earth, the EU have finalised deals with Canada and Japan. Davis has some catching up to do.

This is the wrong thread, but you know full well that we are not allowed to sign any trade deal until we fully leave the EU. The deals you mentioned may well have been signed during the period since the Brexit vote, but the negotiations had been going on for years before. Davis is not responsible for new trade deals, he is responsible for our EU negotiations. We are not allowed, by EU law, to negotiate and sign trade deals while we remain in the EU...
