So you're saying that even though 'we' do an apparently awful job of choosing candidates in the first place, we should still continue with the process because we can vote someone else to be replaced by someone equally awful?

Heck, even our apparent input into the process is a bit of a joke tbh. In my immediate constituency, there are ~ 87,000 registered voters, so my vote has 1/87,000 input (or the better part of bugger all if you prefer). Scale that up to the 30 million or so people that vote across the country and each single vote is practically meaningless. You having a vote will have no input on the outcome for the country whatsoever, and what little input we do have seems to uniformally elect tossers into government.

perhaps an opportune post to put this in, probably the funniest thing the BBC has ever or will ever film*:

* that doesn't involve Demba Ba

I think we need to see a declaration of interests from members of the HoL when it comes to Brexit. There are far too many in receipt of EU payments, subsidies for land, pensions, etc, for them to want to change the status quo.....

Tell you what, we'll do that when we require the electorate to pass a test showing that they have even rudimentary knowledge of the things they're voting on? Fair?

If hullefc had written this you'd be all over it with tin-foil hat accusations and allegations of not being British, haha...

Maybe, just maybe, a crap government trying to push through illI thought-out legislation that serves their dogma without mandate deserve this.

Wouldn’t the HoL types on EU pensions still get them regardless? I don’t think conflicts of interest are at the heart of the issue at all.

Yes landowners wouldn’t get EU subsidies but the government has already stated that these would be replaced- so they wouldn’t be missing out either way really.

What is at the heart of the issue is the fact that we are letting pigheaded jingoism cloud the fact that we are willing to close our doors on our biggest trading partner (which also gives us access to others around the world) which will have untold impact on our own economy and population.

This is exactly what’s been needed since day one, an actual considered opinion rather than hot air and promises. There’s not even a plan A yet and we have 12 months til we’re out in the wilderness.

Well done, my Lords :pint2:

For what, undermining the U.K. negotiating position. You do realise that while their votes will be overturned by the Commons, they have emboldened the EU negotiators to take a far tougher stance against the U.K. and to the detriment of our people. But hey, well done.......

Why do people keep saying we will ‘close our doors’ on our biggest trading partner. We will not stop trading with the EU, and nor will they stop trading with their biggest trading partner, the U.K.....

Without mandate. Do you even remember the referendum........
