Surely this all goes back to the New Labour project? They abandoned the working class to chase votes. It’s all been a sort of slow, painful death since then.

Utterly the wrong analysis.
There's a misperception that the working class vote for Labour handouts and giveaways. The working class want the same thing as the middle classes - to be taxed less, and the opportunity to shape their own live through the efforts of their own hard work. Blair understood that. Traditional Conservatives instinctively understand that also. But to Corbyn and the socialists it is anethema.
 
Is Corbyn the problem? Yes.
Are the flag waving, bootlicking, stupid, selfish English the problem? Absolutely more so.

Consider how the rest of the world views "the English" for a second. It's not complementary, is it?

It’s not about “free handouts”, it is about having a party that puts the working class (the majority) first and foremost. I do not believe Labour under Blair did that. The fact he has made a fortune in the US doing corporate work suggests I might be on to something!
