And how has an aging population affected that? How has the boom of self diagnosed illnesses affected the NHS?

The NHS is a political football. It needs taking out the game

How can you take politics out of an organisation like the NHS when one of the main party's is filled with people who would rejoice at its demise? John Major knows the score when it comes to this.

Right now it’s difficult to say which party that actually is.

Polls will be proven wrong hopefully...really sad to read/hear someone like BJ is destined to win an election in a spectacular fashion soon

Sod off with this. I can remember news stories the past 15 years that ‘the NHS is at breaking point’. Oddly they don’t sort their own house and shed the multitude of middle management jobs that have no public facing impact. It’s a crock.

I would be amazed if there was a single year since its creation when there weren't headlines about the NHS being in crisis. It kinda reinforces the point made earlier that investment in the NHS has actually gone up, but you could well argue it hasn't gone up enough. It's in the politicians interests to paint what has gone before as the worst thing in the history of the world.

It's perhaps illustrative that I made a post a year or so ago asking if people felt a personal responsibility to try and live healthier so they didn't burden the NHS so much, and the vast majority were of the 'can't be arsed, it's there to pick up the pieces' type. What can you do?

Didn´t seem to be at breaking point in 2010...

But you´ve done your research, you know what´s causing the trouble in the NHS. It´s all the middle managers. Nothing to do with staff morale being at an all time low or the under funding.

2005 - https://www.theguardian.com/money/2005/dec/03/publicfinances.politics and http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4274610.stm

It's always in 'crisis'. Maybe the docs should stop calling wolf.

It's just avoidance of the U-turn the Tories have done on the nursing bursary, and their wild claims of 50000 new nurses.

I doubt it some of the stunts they have already pulled shows Tory desperation, also consider its
manifesto release on Sunday evening or it's loose idea of government... This is party that has little to offer and really does not want to engage with the electorate.

That’s a really poor thing to say mate.

Do you know anyone who works in the NHS?

They’ll all tell you the same. It’s as bad as it’s ever been.

Where I work we’re constantly seeing doctors and teachers taking jobs because they want to get out of the NHS/education sector due to the stress they’re constantly put under.
