I've a feeling some of our more delusional membership are expecting a stampede of the footballing worlds top young managerial talent to be hammering at our door come June.Me,even though I'd rather he wasn't here I've a feeling he will be only because we have to face facts,we just aren't a draw.Proved by what happened when Koeman departed.

poison chalice springs to mind, with no clear direction and 2 years of sackings.

not very enticing really.

this could all change with some key appointments on the board

Still be here next season, be suprised at any other outcome. Besides why would Moshiri sack someone who has done the job they are paid to do ?

Would love us to sack the arrogant gobshite but as it isn't me making the decision I can see him leaving at the end of the season unless Moshiri does the unthinkable and popcorns the entire support.

Pretty much what I said a few days back.

This summer charge him with a new mandate. Top 6, pot, whatever. See how he measures up to it like he did this season.

Appreciate that aint popular, but unless a *random in vogue manager* is lined up, cant see what else he will do.

You may be right about him staying but that would represent a readjustment of expectations by the board and the de facto owner. Moshiri has stated on many occasions, including the start of this season, that the CL is the goal under his leadership. That may be bluster and maybe he is here simply to share in the wealth the PL generates but, if we are to take him at his word, then the continuing employment of Allardyce would be a rowing back on that ambition. Allardyce is 63, has never won anything, has had a safety first tactical style at every club he has been at and there is zero evidence that he can take a club beyond mid-table. In fact if you look at the clubs in the years following his departure many of them have struggled with the squads he has left behind with Sunderland, Blackburn and Newcastle (off the top of my head) all being relegated relatively soon after his departure.

Simply put, if Allardyce stays on, Moshiri has given up on the CL places, at least temporarily. How can you be happy with that?

What evidence is there, in decades of management, that Allardyce can achieve either of the things in bold? If that truly is the goal of the board then retaining Allardyce is inexplicable. If not, if it is a balance sheet exercise, then I can see the logic of him staying. We almost certainly won't be relegated but the state of the club he leaves behind when he finally does retire is a grave concern.

The evidence over 20 years of history, is that Sam Allardyce simply cannot perform when he has expectations and pressure to win.

The suggestion to back him in the summer is ludicrous quite frankly.

Where did I say I wanted him to stay?

You could of had thousands of other managers to get this team to reach 40 points from November with a salary of one less zero than what fathead is getting paid! Unfortunately our board shat their kecks and pressed the panick button.

Well this got trotted out the other day. Who, at the time, would have come/was available?

You didn't. But the scenario you put forward would be a disaster. Allardyce is the most uncomplicated manager in England. You know what you get regardless of the players he has. Archaic hoofball, albeit semi organised with players very disciplined usually. No room for flair, no tactical awareness offensively, but a guaranteed 42-47 points. Midtable dross. If that's what the board want then that's sad. If they expect Allardyce to challenge much higher up then that's delusional and goes against 20 years of hard evidence.

That's all irrelevant now though, Moshiri has had 5 months to do due dilligence on a new manager (remember he initially wanted to give Allardyce a 6 month contract). If he hasn't done so then that is gross negligence. He can offer a new manager a full pre-season, resources to improve the squad and guaranteed premier league football next year. If he still can't find a decent candidate who wants to come to the club then that is a failing at boardroom level rather than some sort of global manager shortage. I agree with you that options were limited in the Autumn because of a myriad of issues but most of those issues do not apply now and the decision regarding Allardyce's employment will be a clear statement of the true intent of the board for this club.
