this is a refreshing honest approach i was hoping for. thank u.
The Ross Barkley saga is probably the most damning moment of our fan base as a whole. After that achilles stomp by Barry in preseason, Barkley came back and was rightly a bit timid after the injury as many players still have to recover psychologically.

Never have I seen a fan base turn on one of its most promising young players like we did that season. He was never the same player after that. The lad was desperate to leave Everton. It speaks volumes that a homegrown lad like Ross gladly screwed us on the transfer price as well.

Ive seen it happen so many times over the years.

People scream abuse at our own players and then wonder why they cba putting any effort in.

Its toxic "support", plain and simple.

do we think that young everton players are helped as much by their fans to develop as say young liverpool players and if not why??

Their fans are delusional to an extent yeah. But they encourage their youngsters. All I hear is about how great every one of their crap youngsters are. And to everyone’s shock, their crap youngsters actually shine.

Took my brother the airport the other week and he was telling me that Harvey Elliot has the same skillset as Messi.

I mean thats next level delusion but its better than me saying Gordon is rubbish and wont make it here.

Thats the difference, I realise this makes me come across badly, but never in my entire life have I ever abused an Everton player at a game or on twitter.

it is almost as if young humans benefit in development from encouragement and patience i am surprised if any fan would compromise this through a misplaced sense of entitlement.

It’s so true though. If you have players believing in themselves, chances are that they will be better players. I don’t get that from any of our guys, and it’s no surprise with all of the abuse that’s casually tossed about.

A young player playing in a good side is going to get a lot more encouragement than one playing in a crap team. Liverpool fans can turn on their own players as quick as ours.
