I couldn't help but notice that yesterday our Captain Marvel was on the subs bench. If he was on the bench, I have to presume that he was fit enough to play.

So why didn't he? It's well known that he is one of Moyes' favourite players, and his voice on the pitch.

So is he being phased out now? Has Moyes finally realised, that perhaps we might not need him?

I like the bloke, and think he's a tremendous captain and an asset to our club, but in my opinion he is our weakest player, which is no insult to Phil, but more of an aknowledgement to how far we have progressed as a footballing side in the past few years.

So are his playing days numbered? And does anyone else want him to have some sort of Coaching role when he retires?

He should be defensive mid and right back cover for now. Better options in both but never let's anyone down, especially in the middle.

You would think in a year or two he will have Steve Round sweating.

Yeah, he's just cover...or should be. Everyone will start appreciating him when he's confirmed as that too. He's a safe pair of hands (unless it's against Liverpool, in which case he implodes and gves them OGs and penalties). It's when he starts a game that people become upset with him. Keep warming the bench, Phil.

I put in the Seamus thread , ages ago , that the young lad would be right back by Xmas , and the other two wait their turn .

I have not changed me mind . Hibbo's defending got him the nod y'day , but BOTH will be superceded by Shay .

Pip will do the , utility man thing for the rest of the season .

If only there was a way to combine the mental, leadership and defensive ability of Neville, attacking play of Coleman, and the .....the.....the loyalty of Hibbert, we'd have the best right back ever!

I do think this will perhaps be the first season where he may get as many sub apps as he does starts. Great cover though as said above

This is the best news I've heard in ages.

Top post mate and one I can agree with. Think Neville's days as a regular starter are numbered and we'll have a new club captain before the end of the season. Nothing but respect for captain fantastic though. He's been a great leader and role model for this club over the years and can still be a very important team player for us. Would love to see him remain at Everton, after he finishes his career.

Neville will start playing less and less as the season progresses. I can see him staying for another season, after this one, and then retiring, when he'll be 35, and go in to management.

Excellent OP. I reckon he's being phased out through this season and Moyes is realising, as has been said, how much we've progressed and are progressing in terms of the football we play. He'll still make some appearances this season and I thank him for his service on the pitch but in terms of regular starts for him, I hope/think this is the end.

Getting on the coaching staff and/or becoming an assistant manager is a good idea, mind.

Dreams of a Coleman/Donovan tandem down the right side from January onwards. Mouthwatering prospect tbh.:hay:

Yeah I agree with with u, think he is just gonna be cover for a coupl of positions. He has however been a great assest to us in the past and he always gives 100% in every game/
