The devaluation of the FA Cup

As with most things in Football, perception often becomes reality

We've had it rammed down our gullets for so long now that the FA Cup doesn't matter anymore that people start to believe it

The only way to return value to the FA Cup is for supporters to care about it like it's important, and get that message across to the teams they support

Certain clubs want out this competition at the first chance they get regardless of where they are in the league.

You could also get Shrewsbury in the CL if they won the cup though technically..

Be different at least..

All for it. And I would support them in the CL qualifying rounds to boot, you never know they may get an easy draw against Celtic! :p

I would presume the clubs like us that have experimented with sides, would be fully focused and motivated given what is on offer to probably ensure that a lower league side would struggle to cope.

Blame uefa - they stole the limelight when they opened the European Champions cup up to (mainly) runners up, devaluing it but also opening up more revenue streams from the stupid. It also devalued the uefa cup and destroyed the cup winners cup - but that didn't matter since they ended up with more paying armchair viewers of whatever game was on the box.

Simple solution. Make the European cup SOLELY a competition amongst champions, top 3 places are for UEFA cup only and if anyone else wants anyone shot at European glory go for a domestic cup.

It's like the old days. There's a lot of arrogance and self congratulation amongst my generation that the old days were something that needed to be changed but in many cases they're utterly wrong. Why change a time proven successful formula?

Oh right .... individual wealth.

I was talking with a mate of mine recently about how quickly it seems the FA Cup has gone down in many's estimation. I think it's a fantastic and very special cup, and can't help but feel it will only become less and less prestigious if something is not done. Now, I'll add that I'm only 28, so I'm hardly ancient.

As a Man Utd supporter, I feel the top teams are somewhat to blame for this. Everything is about top 4 and league placement, and many fans of the bigger clubs seem to think it's more of a nuisance than anything. I get that fans of clubs like Wigan or Hull (no disrespect intended) would still be over the moon with a good cup run, but it feels like even the lower placed prem teams would rather rest a few players for the league games now.

Do any of you feel the same way and think something can be done about this trend? Or is it just the natural consequense of the money and a more global sport?
Probably already been pointed out but it was your lot that began the rot.

The current champions league format was done to head off 20 of the biggest clubs forming their own league. So it's not going to happen.

The decline in status of the cup is a natural outcome of the way the game is going. The rich get richer. You can't go back.

I don't see automatic CL qualification as a good thing. Not really fair on the teams who slog it out all season.
